Orcas swimmer going stateside

South Dakota State swim team courts Ladysmith’s Cassie Kozar

Ladysmith swimmer Cassie Kozar will be racing for South Dakota State University in September.

The Orcas Swim Club member was recently awarded a scholarship that will cover 50 per cent of her education costs. She can’t wait to dive into the deep end with the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1 team.

After capturing a time of 2:25 in the 200-metre backstroke, Kozar was told she would have no problem competing for the school.

“I have been talking to the university since high school was out,” Kozar says.

“When you are from Canada and want to go to school in the States, you are the one that has to pursue it.” . . . (read more)

Looks like Ladysmith is across the way from Vancouver so you might be able to say that.
