Father-son bond deepened over 70,000 miles

Scott Gottschalk says it's probably a good thing he didn't figure out until very recently just how many miles he has traveled to watch his son Travis compete as a college wrestler for South Dakota State.
Talking with Scott for a while, you don't get the idea that foresight, hindsight or much of anything would have stopped him anyway. But still, the number is staggering: 70,000 miles.
If that sounds impossible, consider another thing that sounds impossible, but is also true: Travis Gottschalk has wrestled in 106 consecutive matches for South Dakota State, and Scott Gottschalk has been there for all 106. Indeed, Scott has not missed a match for the duration of Travis' career, which began in first grade. (read more)
