Havlik signs on for wrestling
Five-time state place-winner and Mitchell native Stratton Havlik has signed a National Letter of Intent to wrestle at South Dakota State University beginning this fall, head coach Jason Liles announced Thursday.
Beginning as an eighth grader, Havlik placed seventh at the high school state meet. In the 103-pound weight class. As he continued to grow and develop, Havlik steadily moved up in both weight class and rankings. In his senior campaign, Havlik competed in the 152-pound weight class and captured a first-place finish at the state meet.
Havlik boasts a 155-38 record in high school, including a 68-3 record in his final two seasons. A five-time letterwinner for coach Travis Carpenter, Havlik also has competed extensively outside of the high school ranks, including posting a third-place finish in the 140-pound division at the 2006 Brute adidas Junior Nationals. . . .
