Re: Pre-seeds Big 12 tournament
Breakdown on early matches at the Big XII Championships.
125 - Connor Brown (18-12): Prelims vs. Sean Cannon, UNC. Didn't wrestle against, against common conference opponents Brown went 2-1 and Cannon was 0-3. Expect Brown to win.Quarter Finals vs. Christian Moody. Moody beat Brown 5-3 in late January.
Brown is seeded 5th and the Big XII will qualify 7 for NCAA's.
133 - Seth Gross (21-1): Gross losing a match would be a major upset. Expected to face #25 Rico Montoya from UNC in semifinals and #3 Kaid Brock from OSU in finals. Hasn't wrestled either this year. Seth beat Brock three times last year.
Gross is seeded 1st and 5 qualify for NCAA's.
141 - Henry Pohlmeyer (19-7): Prelims vs. Chris DeLoza (4-21), Fresno State. DeLoza really has 3 wins and a forfeit, with none of the wins against a varsity D1 wrestler. Pohlmeyer should dominate.Quarters vs. Ian Parker (19-7), Iowa State. Parker only wrestled 3 matches at 141 and wrestled most at 133. He did beat #7 Dean Heil from OSU 3-1. Should be a dandy!
Pohlmeyer is seeded 5th, but only 3 will qualify. Big XII has 3 ranked in top 9, so Pohlmeyer will have to have at least two upsets to qualify.
149 - Colton Carlson (8-15): Prelims vs. Sam Turner (23-13), Wyoming. Turner beat Carlson 3-0 in January, but Carlson really hasn't beat a wrestler since Dec 3rd. Don't expect Carlson to pick up a win.157 - Luke Zilverberg (24-7): Quarters likely opponent will be Chase Straw from ISU. Zilverberg beat Straw 10-7 a few weeks ago.
Semis vs. Archie Colgan, Wyoming. Pick'em match here, with Colgan winning 5-3 in January's matchup.
Zilverberg is seeded 3rd with only 3 qualifying. Fourth seed, Jonce Blaylock from OSU is solid, but it would be a mild upset for Zilverberg not to qualify.
165 - Logan Peterson (15-12): Prelims vs. Dawaylon Barnes, OU. Barnes won 9-2 last month vs. Peterson.
Peterson is seeded 11th, but 6 will qualify, so a timely upset could qualify Peterson.
174 - David Kocer (21-5): Quarters vs. Kyle Pope, Wyoming. Pope should beat Kincaid from Fresno State. Kocer majored Pope in Brookings, 9-1.
Semis vs. Yoanse Mejias, OU. Another pick'em. Expect Kocer to reverse last months 7-5 loss to Mejias.
Kocer is seeded 3rd and 5 qualify for NCAA's.
184 - Martin Mueller (21-4): Quarters vs. Dane Pestano, ISU/Tyler McNutt, NDSU winner. Mueller will be favored, but had tight matches with both wrestlers this year.
Semis vs. Dylan Gabel, UNC. Gabel has a 20-7 record and they haven't squared off against each other. Still expect Mueller in the finals.
Mueller is seeded 2nd and 4 qualify. Mueller will need to wrestle well as there are several wrestlers capable of notching upsets to qualify.
197 - Nate Rotert (22-3): Quarters vs. Jacob Seely, UNC/Cordell Eaton, NDSU. Rotert is the king of winning tight matches this year. He beat Eaton 3-1 to end the season.
Semis vs. Jacob Holschlag, UNI. Rotert won 5-1 in January.
Rotert is seeded 2nd and 4 qualify. Rotert could win Big XII, but if he doesn't bring his top stuff he could fail to qualify.
285 - Alex Macki (11-12): Prelims vs. Connor Webb, OU. Webb has only one win since November, and Macki beat Webb 5-3 in January.
Quarters vs. AJ Nevills, FSU. Nevills is 23-7 this year, but has lost his last four matches. A Macki upset would not be a surprise.
Macki is seeded 6th, but only 3 qualify. This weight class is fairly wide open after Derek White from OSU.

Re: Pre-seeds Big 12 tournament
Of the wrestlers in the consolation bracket, Connor Brown has the best chance to still qualify. Alex Macki has an uphill battle to make top 3 and qualify.
Pohlmeyer’s win over Ian Parker from ISU was big. However, he’s facing #1 seed next and only 3 qualify in his weight class.
Rotert’s 17-2 win over Holschlag from UNI was impressive!

Re: Pre-seeds Big 12 tournament
Jacks have qualified 5 for nationals. Pohlmeyer and Zilverberg are each 1 victory away from a third place finish and automatic qualify. As it stands, now, three are wrestling for championships, 3 for third place finishes and 1 for a 5th place finish.
