great effort by the ladies 87 38 a kerblastification by any other word. Heiser in limited minutes with 14? on a ton of threes. she going to be good. Jill looks like she has her three touch back. inside game good, need to cut the turnovers.
If Purdue and the Jacks meet it will be the first time three central S.D. girls will face each other........Stanley Co. Sam Ostarello and Pierre's Steph Paluch and Katie Lingle. Tonight Ostarello had 18 points on 8-9 shooting from the field and 2-4 from the line. Plus she had 9 boards, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks in 18 minutes. Purdue beat Austin Peay 93-53. Was hoping Sam would have gone to SDSU. I think she would have been a good fit.
When you put on that jersey, the name on the front is more important than the name on the back.
I haven't seen the final stats, but we had to have ended the night shooting around 60%.
Obviously UVU was completely overmatched, and that won't happen every night, but man....those SDSU ladies sure played a pretty salty game out there tonight huh?
There were about 3 possesions in a row towards the beginning of the game where there was some real nifty passing going on to finish the drive.

Seven South Dakota State players scored in double figures, leading the Jackrabbits to an 87-38 victory over Utah Valley in the first round of the Preseason Women's NIT at Frost Arena. The Jackrabbits will host Hampton (Va.) in second-round action at 7 p.m. Monday. Hampton recorded a 69-64 victory Friday at in-state rival James Madison. Utah Valley will play in a consolation quadrant Nov. 19-20 at a site to be determined. SDSU opened the game firing on all cylinders, hitting its first seven shots from the field in building a 17-4 lead in the first four and a half minutes. Jill Young connected on a three-pointer on the Jackrabbits' first possession of the game and SDSU created a number of easy baskets in transition, including three baskets in the paint by Leah Dietel, during the opening run. ....
Always interesting to see how the sports info department writes it up when a team gets really ripped apart...here's UVU's take on the game (note the compliments paid by the coach about 'how the game is supposed to be supported'):
BROOKINGS, S.D. - Utah Valley drops to the consolation bracket of the Preseason WNIT as it found itself on the wrong end of an 87-38 decision at South Dakota State Friday night. The Jackrabbits (1-0) shot near 60 percent from the floor to the Wolverines (0-1) 27 percent. "We're a team that is in the learning process," UVU head coach Cathy Nixon said. "We knew coming into the WNIT that we were going to have an inexperienced team and be on the road against a very good team in South Dakota State. Despite the score, this was great for our program. It is great to see basketball being played the way it is supposed to be played and supported like it should be. Obviously we don't feel great about our performance tonight but in the big picture its good for our kids to have this experience." ....
UVU official website story LINK. UVU was picked pre-season to finish #5 in the Great West Conference (7 teams total) so we all knew this had the potential to be a real drubbing. Jacks showed that no matter who the opponent, they have their game to play and they played it!
It was a very good start to the season. It was fun to see all the girls get a lot of time in the game and to see the sparks of what these younger members are bringing to the team.
the one thing I saw that needed a lot of work... box out... as a team we were great at swarming to the basket but terrible about getting them boxed out and several times got out jumped. I am sure we came out ahead at the end of the game but against a better team it really would have hurt us, it got much better 2nd half.
The turnovers ... first half we had 15? I think, but they were sneaky in that I was surprised how many we had. I think the team made some very good adjustments at the half because they took much better control in the second half.
T. Heiser and S. Paluch are going to be VERY good we will be ok until we get Macie back (On that note, saw her run out to center court to congratulate teammates a couple times, so she must be feeling ok)
Megan W. OH man is she going to be fun to watch... I don't think she scored tonight but she can see the floor, she had a couple of passes that were so pretty top of the key, feeding it in to the base for an easy bucket... the points will come, the smarts are already there.
Katie Lingle was different for me, she seemed a step slower than everyone else on the floor tonight and still put up ten points. Not what I expected, but of everyone on the floor she stood out as the one I wanted to see more from. Not that she played bad, she played ok. like I said, was an odd one for me.
Hanna S. I think is going to be very good as well. She was a little out of control at times, but showed flashes of great footwork and seeing the floor. Excited to see how she develops.
Aide, was smooth tonight putting up a very quite 11 points.
This wasn't an exciting game to watch, but was a good game to watch if that makes sense. I was glad I made the trip up.
I was kind of surprised to see AJ bring out the zone tonight, but it needs work so I get it... our man D is much stronger.
Older gals....
Jill when she gets a set shot is lights out..
Kristen, even with what felt like a quiet night is
Sunnarborg... 6 blocks, 12 points, 8 boards
We are a very fast team with the ability to put up a lot of quick points. Very balanced. Should be a very good season, but we are VERY young so I am sure we will have some growing pains.
Only thing i'd like to see is to get control of the rebound & get into transition faster.Easier said than done, but it seemed like it took forever to start a fast break, simply because we couldn't secure the rebound & get it going while the defense was still vulnerable.Don't really want to detract from a really superb night of basketball though. When a team wins by 49, i guess they're doing something right.
The UVU coach said that this experience was great for their team and their kids. An interesting take on a game like that.
It was nice to see SDSU work it inside early and get Dietel and Sunnarborg involved. The Jacks held the rebounding advantage 42-26, but the boxing out must improve, especially against better competition.
Waytashek really impressed me. She plays with intensity on defense and has active defense and should fit in well.
Michelson participated in the stretching portion of the afternoon shootaround, but was not active for the drills.
Hampton should be a very good 2nd round matchup, especially after going to JMU and getting a tough win.
Hampton will be a test. They won 20 games last year and lost in the first round of NCAA to Duke and they have been a perennial power in the MEAC.
Hampton will be more than a test. They will flat out get out and pressure the ball. Something we did not see from UTV Friday night. They are bigger than us and will be much faster. I think their big girl had 27 vs JM.
Name of the game on Monday night will to be take care of the ball and that's were we will miss Macie.
That first 3 or 4 minutes Friday night was impressive and certainly told UTV that they were not in the same league with our Lady Jacks.
I got that very same impression, just looking at thier team picture. Some very big bodied girls.Time for stealth & deceptivness.....j/k.Maybe with our depth we can run em ragged.Big girls have to expend more energy than lighter girls, running that is.Here's the write-up. http://www.hamptonpirates.com/news/2...112100740.aspx
