How important is it to have 3pt. shooters in our offensive scheme.I personaly think,& I think the 2008-09 team proves it,(TCU),if you've got the entire team out there who can kill you with 3pt. shots, it forces you to come out to the perimeter, which you can then exploit the inside game.I think Sunnorborg is an excellent 3pt. shooter, who's probably open more than the "known" 3pt. shooters on the team. What got me to thinking about this is when one of the Sooners spoke in an interview something like they thought it was going to be a long night because one of our women (might have been A. Anderson ),who is an excellent 3pt. shooter, made a 3pt. shot early in the game.I think they're scouting is a little weak if they didn't think Allison Andersen,(or whoever it was), was quite capable of hitting that shot. It's nice to have players who can take someone on the dribble, but if there's no where to go because the lanes are all clogged up, it's kind of useless isn't it?As long as the shooting % stay's respectable, the 3pt shot is a valuable asset .We,ve alway's recruited good 3pt shooters, & i think the women's team is getting the reputation around the country as being one of the better 3pt shooting teams in the nation.

Re: How important is the 3pt. shot for our team?
One of the big differences from '08 to '09 was the presence of an inside/outside threat in Jenn W. in '08. SDSU didn't really have that in '09 (there were other mental differences between the teams, but that's a key talent difference, IMO).
With AJ's strategy of balance on offense, an inside/outside threat gives you at least one player that will be impossible to guard 'perfectly' right from the opening tip; unless the other team has an All-American defender at that spot, they'll have to give her the perimeter or the post. That's the wedge that effectively breaks down the other team's defense.
I wouldn't say that the three point game is more or less important than the post game because, IMO, they complement each other. Given a choice, AJ has stated that he prefers to work inside out. But in instances like the TCU game, where they play a soft zone, he'll take wide open perimeter shots--shoot, who wouldn't?
I think the key is a player adept at posting up AND shooting threes (Kristen doesn't have much of a post and/or back to the basket game), because that's the player that destabilizes the other team's defensive schemes.

Originally posted by JamesJacks View PostRespectfully disagree with this statement about Kristen. She got a number of post up opportunities and was effective. I'm not saying it's the best part of her game, but you can't say she doesn't have much of a back to the basket game. She has proven this. She is a mismatch because she can hit the three and when certain lineups were on the floor, she got some mismatch postup chances.
Both her and Ketty are willing to drive the lane, but I don't think either is really comfortable 'setting up shop' close to the basket (differentiating them from Jenn W. (we should probably start calling her Jenn H.), Maria, and Jennie S), and that's kind of what I'm talking about.
