    Re: Oklahoma!

Greetings Jack Rabbit fans from the great state of Oklahoma to the great state of South Dakota. Congratulations on a successful season and entry to the Big Dance. Looking forward to the challenge of our Sooners playing the Jacks.

I have been reading several of your comments on the coming game, and have to agree with a lot of your observations. I have been a season ticket holder for eight seasons now, but have been a women's basketball fan for over 30. It is true from some of your comments that we do lay an egg from time to time. We seem to do pretty well to get to the sweet 16, but besides our two final four appearances, we have trouble getting over the hump.

I know some of you have stated that our girls might be looking past the Jack Rabbits. I don't think that is true. They don't mean to disrespect you guys, its just they are mainly familiar with the Big XII that they play in and some of the close regional teams and just don't know about teams outside their comfort zone. Coach Coale will have them ready. We know your team is exceptional at shooting beyond the arc. That may be our biggest achilles heel, because we are not the best at defending the line. We do a good job of pressure defense and trapping. We are good at blocking out and rebound very well. We also will match up well with the Jack Rabbits, since we like to get into transition quickly and move up the floor. This game could turn into a track meet if not careful. Since early January we have become an excellent free throw shooting team and led the Big XII conference.

Looks like this is going to be one of if not the best 3/14 match ups of the tournament. Hope to get to meet some of the fans from your fare state.

For those curious about our arena. We seat 12 thousand, and the last three home games we were around 10 to 11 thousand. Last year at the Ford Center downtown Oklahoma City we had 12 thousand plus for the elite 8 final against Purdue. We should pack em in for Sunday nights game.

Good luck to all, and if you have any questions I will be glad to answer.

Thanks for the post. Here's my question: Can we move this game to a neutral site?

Sure we could move it to the Ford Center in Oklahoma City, just 20 miles from Norman.

My apologies, I should have known better from the fan site. Nice to be welcomed though.

You should probably also know that the last two Summit Tourney MVPs, and the last two Jacks to get All America consideration were post players.......

Of course, two of those three could shoot the 3 pretty good, but they certainly didn't earn a living off it.

Don't use ouinsider.com, most women's fans don't like that forum, I use ouhoops.com. Kemo, from your board here gave me your site. There are some interesting discussions on that board.

Thanks for the info. I also noticed from your stat line, that your four best 3 shooters are from 36 to 47 percent. That is outstanding shooting beyond the arc, and your overall team field goal % is 46.5. That tells me we had better contest and defend our rears off. I personally think this is going to be a lot better game than the Sooner faithful might think. As for me I do not take the Jackrabbits lightly at all. I am looking for a good battle between two very well coached teams.

NorCalJack, have to take a little issue with your statement. Sherri has 6 Big 12 conference championships, 4 Conference tournament championships, 2 final fours, and 11 straight trips to the NCAA tournament. I don't know what criteria you would base her being a bad coach on, but it looks like she has the OU program well in hand.

I understand several posters have mentioned that we have a problem getting past the sweet 16, and that is true. I don't put that on coaching, I put that on the players. You can teach, and prod, and dicipline, until you turn blue, but I have never seen a coach set a screen, block out on a rebound, or shoot a shot in a game. If the players don't perform the game plan then I put it on them not the coaches. Just my observation over the years. Of course I am a "homer" and only want to defend my girls.

Well as you can tell I live in Northern California and was able to watch the Paris twins play in High School. So I have watched a few OU games, especially during the NCAA's. I never understood why the Paris twins picked OU, I just assumed the OU coach was a good recruiter. I am also in Bubba's camp (that is Bubba Paris, the father of the twins) that OU should have done better with those two players. I attribute that to bad coaching. Bad coaching goes beyond X's and O's, it also means they need to motivate the players and prepare them for the game.

I just feel that they have underachieved during the NCAA the past few years. Some point out that they made the Final Four last year, but they were a No. 1 seed, that is what No. 1 seeds are suppose to do.

Also on a side note, if anyone gets a chance to watch Princeton play, watch that game and look for Niveen Rasheed. She is from NorCal also and is a really good player. She is a freshman and has pretty much turned the Princeton program around. She is in the top 5 in almost every category of the Ivy League, including scoring, rebounding, assists and steals. She can play all 5 positions. She is fun to watch play.

As much as I respect your opinion, I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I will make one last post on this then move on. We were picked to finish 5th in the toughest conference in the country. After the fifth game of the season, we lost the Big XII's freshman of the year and without a doubt our team leader for the season to an ACL injury. As far as most were concerned, we were done for the season and going to be lucky to finish at .500 at best. We played the toughest schedule in the country, with one of the thinest benches. We had graduated the Paris twins. So what happens. We finish tied for 2nd in our conference. Play for the Conference championship (and by the way if we could hit lay-ups we win) and end up with a #3 seed in the Big Dance. All because of our Coach Sherri Coale getting the very best out of each and every player. That has nothing to do with X's and O's that takes great coaching. Not just this year, but year after year. We are all entitled to our opinion, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

When they are on, watch out. In my opinion, our best outside shooter is having an off year (Jill Young--shooting 37% and I'm calling that an off year). This lady can flat out shoot (last year shooting 48%). IPFW played zone against SDSU and they lit it up from 3 point land. ORU played the trapping defense you mention OU play. SDSU still had some open shots, but their percentage wasn't the greatest.

"You can teach, and prod, and dicipline, until you turn blue, but I have never seen a coach set a screen, block out on a rebound, or shoot a shot in a game.
