    Re: Usd

I have to agree with JackMD. Heather is a terrific young lady and a heck of a basketball player. Guess I'll have to ask her how she was able to see those carrots flying from the SDSU fans while she was scoring 26 points. As for her chuckling at the memory BUB, if you knew her you'd know she always has a smile on her face and a great sense of humor.

      Re: Usd

I'm not going to call the girl an idiot because there are several memories from my college days that aren't so cool as I age.

I will say this. The one thing I don't like about the past in these games is that people don't remember the great games they remember the stupid things like rabbits and carrots and coyotes thrown on the floor, they remember the off color tshirt they owned (for what its worth I don't think Screw the U is that bad but the shirt with the rabbit behind the coyote on top of the dome was too much) and they remember the stupid things they did (like the editor from the Argus talking about a guy friend of his grabbing an SDSU female by the breast). That isn't what the deal should be about.

I wore one of my two red shirts today to church for Valentine's Day. I felt dirty. I took it off immediately when I got home.

What's the worst of it leeshajo? Visibility or road conditions? We plan to leave about 1 tomorrow from Yankton.

              Re: Usd

It was basically about 5 percent visibility at best from Sioux Falls back to Yankton,

Highway 50 was drifting closed on the outside lane and was getting icy. Lets just say, NOT a pleasant experience. I seriously debated getting a room in Verm. it was that bad from interstate over to town, but pushed through it.

On the interstate going under the overpasses was a joy, they were drifting terrible, you knew you were going to hit snow and there was nothing you could do but drive and not touch the breaks. The worst was seeing two cars spin out in front of me and hit the ditch. I just aimed down the middle. I wasn't touching my breaks. They didn't seem icy per say, but visibility was minimal and there were patches that were slick looking.

I am a pretty calm driver, that was as tense driving as I have ever been.

Sorry, probably more info than you wanted.

I think the plan was we were leaving as soon as I get done shooting the Bucks game at noon tomorrow. I may talk James into covering and shooting himself and try to take off earlier. I already told him I wasn't driving back after the game tomorrow if it is still blowing like that.

My lasting memory of the rivalry is actually not about the shananigans but instead about the last two times the men played against each other. I remember the 15-0 run the Yotes put on the Jacks punctuated by a break away dunk by Brock Siem that had the dome in a frenzy. That run was one of the loudest moments I ever remember during the recent rivalry. I also remember the team playing in Omaha which was actually the last meeting. The Jacks were starting to control the game but at the end of the first half and for much of the second half USD was just too much to overcome. That will be my memories of the rivalry.

No, he doesn't...he's just got selective memory. First he posts the last two men's games he remembers, in the women's basketball thread, which were the last two we played against them. He forgets the previous 13 men's games going back 7 years when the Jacks won 10 and the Yotes won 3.

And as long as he is in the women's threads, he should bring up Mandy Koupal's stint when the Jacks won 6 of the 8 games played against her.

I like the beatdown at Frost in the regional final leading to the national title the best out of those games.

Here is a question, and I hope that it isn't smack. If the SDSU basketball programs were at least even with USD before the transition, how much further ahead is SDSU now? And, will that translate into longer winning streaks for the first few years of their entrance into the Summit?
-South Dakotan by birth, a Jackrabbit by choice.

We may be able to get a good gauge on it tonight. Though I think Udot is down this year compared to the last couple of years, so are the Jacks. I would say this is a lesser Jacks team than the last two with Wark leading the way. But Udot may be down even more. At least the Jacks seem to be getting in a groove now that Oral Roberts isn't on the schedule until the Summit League final.

The Jacks SHOULD win handily tonight as long as the pressures of the event don't get to them.

Then they need to get back into the Summit League mindset quick for two difficult games in the next week. A Summit League title can still happen with 4 straight wins and one ORU loss.

Basketball programs can turn around in a heartbeat--one or two impact players can change the whole dynamic of a team.

Having said that, I don't think Ryun Williams has demonstrated yet that he can be a successful D-I women's basketball coach over the long haul (which doesn't mean he won't--just means he hasn't yet IMHO) while AJ has--to the extent of finishing #3 in last year's National Coach of the Year voting.

I do think USD's athletic administration and coaches have paid close attention to how SDSU went through transition and is applying lessons learned to their transition. Just like I say SDSU will be OK, I think USD will be OK in basketball, too.

The Jacks started slow this year. But now that everybody on the team has figured out their roles, the Jacks are pretty good right now. We've won our last four Summit games by something like 130 points. Boever is scoring and rebounding as well as Jenn Warkenthien did last year. Jennie Sunnarborg is unstoppable when she decides to be. Jill has started to get her shot back. If we get Ketty and Kristen to be a little more assertive and consistent, I like our chances to win the Summit tourney.

If they put two solid halves together tonight, they'll wallop USD pretty handily.
                                Holy nutmeg!
