    Re: Jennie Sunnarborg

She is really starting to come into her own and be a major force. This weekend she was without question the dominant player on the court. I was impressed with her play at both ends. She scored a lot but I was most impressed with some of the rebounds she brought down.

She is going to be another one of those special players that we talk about long after she is gone. Only a sophomore!

    Keep up the great work!

    GB, GB, GJ!

Long arms are great for defending and rebounds. Liked what I saw from her last year as a freshman and I'm really liking what she has done so far this year. Nice award for her.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

Exactly. Those other names will hold there place in history but after them will come others and I can assure you those named above are happy to pass the torch. That is just one of the factors that make SDSU such a great place. Jennie watched and learned from Jen just as she learned from Vogel, Schlagel, Pater, etc.....

Well earned award. Under her outstanding performances, the Jacks knocked off two of the teams tied or above the Jacks. Will she be able to continue and build? IMHO, yes, and Jacks will explode in selfless shooting knowing there's a force on the offensive glass. Jenn S. was making plays and moves to either direction that were last seen performed by Wark.

I sincerely hope this is the start of several such recognitions for great Rabbit performances, especially when they're tied to W's.

CONGRATS JENN, a WELL EARNED HONOR.

Jenny has had two big games. That shows she can do it. With all of the teams focusing on Maria this year, Jenny is no longer a sleeper and will no longer get the advantage of teams trying to just shutting Maria down. My guess is Jenny will now get the respect that Maria has had for scoring and get guarded more physically. It is to early to say Jenny can do it in big games, but she will now be expected to do so.

Interesting take. I'd say your suggesting she shouldn't have had those big games, I know you aren't suggesting that, however. I've been watching her develop and she will be more than able to handle some physical play. Next, I expect to see her continue to improve her face-up game. I think we'll see her taking more defenders off the dribble, crossing the lane, using her left or right hand to score and her relative quickness to get to the line where she shoots nearly 80%.

I like Jennie's offensive game a lot. That being said I don't think we can give her the title of "the next______(insert many sdsu greats)" just yet. She was a dominating force for a few games in a row. A.J. has said many times she has the potential to be a good one, and maybe this is the start of that. She had a great weekend last weekend and she's showed flashes throughout the season of this kind of potential. It seems we are getting more out of our post players recently too. Maria is continuing to put together a solid year. Leah has been scoring more off the bench. And then Jennie's dominating last few games. I like the fact we appear to be making an effort to go inside more recently.

We have had different players step up and sting some good games together this year. The discussion happens all the time on this board about having a "go to" player. I like the fact that we have multiple players who can do this. We just have to make sure one or more of them do it.

If you want to downplay her last 3 games go ahead. It's not what Jennie did it's how she did it. I think Jennie will continue to dominate because she is that good and the person who will benefit the most is Maria just like she did last year with Jennifer Warkentein.

Anyone have any idea what Jen W's numbers were like after her first 5 games as a starter? I'd wages Jen S's are better. I don't remember if Jen W started at the beginning of her Soph season or not. I think she did because we didn't have a lot of other 4-5's on that team.

I'm not trying to compare Jen S to anyone else. I'm just saying I like her as a player and when she is on the court I think our team is better than when she is not.

Jenn W, by the time she was a senior, was very good at shooting with either hand underneath. She was rarely blocked from behind.I think that by the time Jenn S is a senior , she'll be awesome to watch play, just like the past great post players were. She's on her way there now.

                          ^ that.

From Maria's comments in the post game presser Saturday, referring to 'a few moves we know'... Jenn W. could score unless she was double-teamed. If Jenn got the ball one-on-one near the basket, she could get a shot off every time, thanks to those 'few moves that we know'. Maria has those same moves, and it looks like Jennie has gotten them figured out as well.

What AJ gets in recruiting these smart but trainable players, is a succession of players that can be taught and who (more importantly) know -why- moves work.

With Jennie (hopefully) now able to recognize the right move for a given situation, things should pick up down in the post.

JackguyII, Not sure why you would think I was putting down Jenny's performance, I did the opposite. I also don't think Maria will be the benefit from Jenny's performance, I feel the team will benefit from Jenny's perfornace.
