What was up with opeing the doors of Frost Arena just ONE HOUR before the game against Indiana??? How much sense does this make to make crowds stand outside for hours before opening the doors? The game was a sell-out already. I thought it made the SDSU Athletic Dept. (whom I respect a great deal) look like a High School Athletic Dept. When I walked in and saw Keith walking around with huge smile on his face, I wanted to give him a piece of my mind. I simply decided to let it go and enjoy the game. My only thought was that this was a huge event for SDSU and Brookings and made us look like a bunch of idiots.

This has already been discussed. There was an event at the PAC that ended before the game started and needed time to clear so the opening of Frost was delayed.

I'll throw one more reason out there. A large percentage of the staff that works the games are volunteers and have other jobs. Maybe all of the ushers had class until 5:30. Not many people have a clue what it takes to put on a show like the one we saw last night. Especially packer it seems.Comment

My own personal thoughts, I feel the athletic department has done an excellent job with these WNIT games. Christi Williams, Matt Thorn, Rob Peterson, Keith Mahlum, Fred Oien, and all the rest of the staff deserve praise for the excellent work. Please do as I have done and take the time to email them and thank them for all they have done. They do not hear that enough.Comment

Savor a great victory and be greatfull that we have a team providing excitement at this time of year...or complain about something as non-consequential as the time doors open.
I heard there were people outside early (like before noon), so I guess they should have let them in then so they would have to sit outside and look like a bunch of idiots.
I was going to ignore this thread, but some people have no clue as cactus aluded to. I was a part of the fun of putting on games for all of you fans for three years. It's a lot of hard damn work to make an event like last night take place. All of those nice people taking tickets at the gates have jobs (most on campus), so they need time to finish their work day and get over to Frost. As cactus said, the ushers are students and have classes and jobs of their own. They do everything they can to get to the arena as early as possible so that they are in place before the doors open. And the athletic department staff is working late nights and long hours and for many having a few minutes of down time before the madness begins is needed.
So BACK OFF p_t and maybe next time you see Keith tell him you're the idiot who posted on this board complaining about the door opening time and got lambasted by everyone who actually cares about SDSU athletics.
One question for you p_t, how many fans didn't make it inside in that hour between doors opening and tip off? Zero? That's what I thought.I updated my signature for the first time in six years.Comment

I also take issue to your jab at "High School Athletic Dept's." My father is a High School athletic director and setting up for High School Tournaments, Games, etc. is not a small feat (not as big as a WNIT tournament), but they usually don't have the man power like Universities have. So if you ever want to help set up State High School Tournaments feel free to give to the SDHSAA a call and let them know you will volunteer your time to help at the next State Tournament.Originally posted by packer_tattoo

That's a great idea. Maybe for the next WNIT home game p_t would like to volunteer his time and spend a few days leading up to and including game day shadowing Thorn or Christi or Micah to see what goes into prepping for the event and putting on the event. Probably no more needed...but the word from the staff when the decision was made was because a large number of the students who work the games as ushers and support people had classes and they wouldn't be able to get them into place until close to 6 p.m. I'm always amazed at the people who complain about something and think that the people in charge must be idiots for not doing it the way the complainer thinks it should be done. GREAT JOB by all the staff who put in unbelieveable hours in providing us with a forum for a great atmosphere!Comment

I can only pile on with this one comment. If the Indiana game had been played during the sub-zero weather in February and some fans suffered frost bite, you might have a good point. Knowing Keith and the rest of the staff, I think some one would have opened the doors early under these circumstances. Was I in the same state yesterday as the Packer tattoo? It was spring and a very balmy day for the month of March, what is the problem in staying outside and enjoying the nice weather.Originally posted by packer_tattoo
I can attest Catch em had worked very hard for us those three years. Also he went the extra mile on picking up season tickets, because at the time I was living out of state. For what the staff receives monetarily and what the other volunteers receive for their efforts, we should all be very grateful. If these people were not so gracious and helpful, I would stop my electronic tranfer to the Jackrabbit Club immediately. There is little or no chance of that happening as long as I am treated as well as I have been.Comment

It was a bit chilly from 11:30 til 1:30 then the sun came out and warmed us up. Nothing wrong with opening the doors an hour before the game. Having helped set up the student section all year I know what it is like before the game. There is a nice checklist of things that have to be done before the doors open. Having a little time before the game to get settled in and relaxed before the rush is nice for the staff. The promotions staff even came out and set up games and entertainment for the people in line so they weren't bored. I give them two [smiley=thumbsup.gif] for the staff and the way they handled things last night. Besides the media got to do live shots from the game and the crowd filing in to Frost. That media coverage is cooler than taking video of the crowd standing already, the mad rush as shown on KSFY was pretty cool.Originally posted by packer_tattooComment
