    Re: IOWA gdt

We have to have the 'A' team in there the last 3 min or so in a tight game.Like the closer on a baseball team has to protect a 1 run lead in the late innings in a baseball game.....shut 'em down & don't let them score ,contest every shot, make it hard to score the last 3 min. ,make em work harder than they have the will too to score....sorry, that's never going to happen...ranting again, really wanted the women to win this one because they're a Big Ten team i guess.Getting closer to 40 full min...we went 37 this game.Merry Christmas everyone, it's just a basketball game after all.

Not sure who you consider the "A" team but weren't our starters on the floor the last 4 minutes of the game? I listened on the radio so I don't know for sure.

Regardless of who was on the floor it was poor execution the last few minutes of the game. This has happened too much this year.

Just a poor choice of words, i wasn't at the game, so i shouldn't be commenting on how much effort was put forth the last 3 min.I apologize for that.

First 10 minutes we had 8 turnovers, that led to 12 pts, gave up 6 offensive rebounds that led to 10 second chance pts and 6-9 from free throw line by Iowa!

First 10 minutes, we had no free throws and 2 pts of turnovers and two 2nd chance pts and we were 11-15 from field and 3-5 from 3 land!

You would have thought shooting like that we would be up 20!

the last 4:30 of game outscored 17-5!

Here's the difference in the game, Iowa had 15 more shots at the basket. They made 27-69, we made 24-54.They had 15 more chances to put up points. They were 7-19 from 3 pt land, we were 5-18.So, they made 3 more field goals, two of them being 3 pt. fg's....that's 8 pts + 5 more free throws is 13 pts., the diff in the final score....don't give them the extra 15 shots at the basket & it's a completly different game.Of those 15 extra shots they only made 3 more field goals than we did, that's 3 of 15 or 20% shooting.TO's & getting outrebounded, or however else they managed to get those extra shots , cost us the game ,plain & simple. We are a good shooting team, but unless we can clean up the rest of our game , it does us no good what so ever to out shoot our opponent, we just continue to give them more shots at the basket to beat us.

Our two seniors Ketty & Maria were the most efficient players for us tonight, even though they only played 26 & 24 min respectivly. Ketty was 5-7 fg% with 2of 3 being 3 pt. fg's.Also 2-2 from the line.Maria was , as usual, very efficient , going 6-8 fg% & 1-1 free throws.Jill wasn't too shaby either tonight going 6-14, one being a 3 pt fg (1-8 ouch) for game high honors with 16.No one else in double figures.

We just can not seem to win them all. What's wrong? Oh thats right we are human and infalliable. Seriously, our young ladies played their heart out only to come up short, and they got some things to work on so let them do it.

I've always said that in college basketball, playing on the road you pretty much start out down 10-0, and playing at home you start out up 10-0, especially at Frost.

I think if you take all of those losses that we've had at the vistors place this year, we win at least 3 of them if they're at Frost, whereas last years team wins theses same games on the road. I do feel this years OOC schedule is harder than last years though.

But...this isn't last years team, so the ladies just have to buck-up and win the conference and the conference tourney and hope to "peak" about that time going into the tournament(s). Which is VERY attainable. I think the conference run will give this team a lot of confidence, which they need right now.

                      Go Jacks!!

                        Re: IOWA gdt

Was at the game last night and it was very physical and both teams really got after it. The 4th foul on Boever was a joke considering all the pushing and shoving that was going on. She was pretty much a non-factor after that and without her the Jacks got killed on the boards. But...had a couple 3-pointers fallen and a couple contested close-in shots gone in, and without an ill-advised long-pass turnover toward the end, the outcome could have been different.

Listened to the Iowa post-game show on the way home and their coaches were very complimentary of the Jackrabbits. Called them a Big 10-caliber team and were glad to play such a team like those they'll face in the Big 10 in the upcoming season. The same, I would say, is true of the Jacks.

Haven't seen that many women's games, but I wouln't say the officiating was that good. Iowa was in the double-bonus in the first half with about 9-minutes to go. And I thought their 2 posts got away with a lot.

It was disappointing because if you live in Iowa and aren't a UI graduate or an Iowa fan (and that's probably a good two-thirds of the state), Hawkeye athletics are hard to stomach sometimes.

Sorry for the rants about this & rants about that last night....even though we're just fans, we tend to really get into the game too, maybe too much so.Iowa's a darn good team, so were most of our OOC schedule this year,a lot of them being played at thier court .There's nothing to hang your head down about in the way it turned out.We had two big wins also,& played everyone tough & learned a lot from the experience. Now we have to put that experience to good use.I'm sure that's exactly what the coaching staff & the young women on the team will do.Even thru the disappointments of the losses, still proud the way the team fights and the effort they put forth in each & every game.Lots of the season left, maybe the best is yet to come.

They definitely played hard last night and I was impressed with the attitude of the entire team. Iowa pbp guy on sports talk show today was still talking about how "rough" the Jacks played. Fellow show participants called it an excellent team for Iowa to play to get ready for the rigors of the Big 10 season.

To add to this post which is exactly what AJ pointed to during his post game press conference. We were outrebounded 46-34 and we gave up a whopping 21 offensive rebounds. To sum up what AJ said, "we played well but not well enough to win."
