77-72, WKU leads. 39 sec left. Horrible call against the Jacks with 1 sec left on shot clock.

Very evident that we lost more than we thought with last year's class. Besides the obvious of losing an All American like Jen - I think you can see that Oistad, Muckenhirn and Meiers provided some leadership and toughness that we have not seen replaced. Doesn't mean it won't happen, I just think we have to see who steps forward. We have also played 4 very good teams to start the season. I definitely expect to see all four in the postseason, and wouldn't be surprised if all four are in the NCAA tournament. Let's regroup and kick some butt at the Junkaroo Jam.

A major dose of reality. It just goes to show how special last year was. Division I basketball is tough and you have to be ready every game. Our women will bounce back. We have a great coach and terrific players. The first thing they need to do is get their confidence back.

wow... I don't want to sound like the sky is falling and I know its a long season to bounce back, but right now we are an average team. We just don't have the athletic ability to make the kind of execution errors that we made today. The team looks tired. Talking to AJ before the season started he voiced how concerned he was about the sense of complacency(sp) that this years team had. I doubted it, but this is what it looks like to me. He also voiced his concern for the lack of leadership in the upperclassmen. Once again I doubted this, but this is what I see now. I really hope one of the underclassmen can step up and lead this team. I am very dissapointed with the upperclassmen. I know members of the team and parents read this board. I am not bashing the team. I am just dissapointed at this point. I will continue to cheer my heart out for the Jacks.
On another note... the refs continue to disrupt the flow of the game. This crew bothers me every single time they come to Frost.
Finally... I was really dissapointed with our student section today. We must have all had to rough of a Saturday night. Hopefully students continue to show up but in the future make more noise. It seems like we can really contribute to the atmosphere.

sounds like i need to come back up there and remind the students how to make some noise!

                      Re: GDT--Western Kentucky

Just got home from the game. The Jacks did everything well except defend the point. #3 is a heck of a basketball player and pretty much singlehandedly beat us in the second half.

It's disappointing to lose, but there were some good things going on. Nobody said this would be easy. We played a whole lot of freshman minutes today. They're getting better. What's more discouraging to me are the bonehead plays by our experienced players. But I think that's all part of the process of everybody figuring out their roles. AJ mentioned that we have a bunch of offensive-minded players and some defensive-minded players but not enough players who do both. I have confidence in the coaches to figure that out.

And as has been mentioned, the officiating was again atrocious. Sure, more fouls were whistled on WKU, but nobody pays to go watch a free throw shooting exhibition. It just appears to me that the officials we get aren't accustomed to this level of play. It seems like every time two bodies come in contact they blow the whistle. It's really discouraging for the players. You move your feet raise your arms over your head, and somehow there's a bit of body contact and the whistle blows. Wow.
                      Holy nutmeg!

Gut check time for the ladies. This week's MTE is going to be tough.

its not all about the offence, we gave up too many points close to the basket.

Hoping Dietel & Sunnarborg mature quickly in the post.

I went to the game, what i saw was a Western Ky that was very , very tenacious on defense , we couldn't drive to the hoop all night it seemed like against them. When you have to fight hard for every point & lots of thiers came relativly easy, it wears on you after awhile.Thier strategy seemed like it was to spread out our defense & use thier quicker players to drive the hoop.Everything worked off the drive to the hoop all the way or dish off to open player standing by the bucket. We didn't get good position to be able to get rebounds, we were the ones boxed out.One gal took the dribble to an overloaded defense on the right side, took about 3 1/2 or four long strides & either got a lay up or short shot.It was really quick. Can't have defensive lapses against that caliber of team. For all our short commings & even though we're struggling right now, i came away with the feeling that when we put it all together, we'll be a tough ,tough team to beat. One more point, i counted about 3 times where Maria busted her butt to get downcourt & was relativly open for a move to the bucket, nobody ever saw her to make the pass.If someone makes that kind of effort, get them the ball.I also think we should try & see if we can rattle them once in awhile by pressuring them when they are bringing the ball ,see if we can force a turnover, or steal & make an easy one. These teams arn't like Summit teams that play back & let you pass it around the perimeter, they have good enough athletes that are applying pressure on you the whole game.Outside 3 pt shots hard to get with that type defense.Again , this all helps for later in the season.Let's face it now, while we have time to deal with it, instead of the tournement if we get the auto bid.I think we should have adapted thier own strategy on them with our offense , spread it way out so we can drive to the hoop & make something happen. We couldn't drive the hoop at all because it was too cluttered, nor could the low post do anything because she alway's had at least two defenders on her all the time.Way too cluttered underneath on our end. When they spread out our defense, it becomes easier to drive the hoop, but passing is more dangerous, so, without fail , as soon as our defense came out they drove in, we should have been smarter & let them try & shoot the 30-35 footer for three.

On the bright side, it seems to be a fan reaction no matter what team we're talking about.Purdues fans are all gloom & doom for the season, & they've only had one loss
