Don't think there is any way I can do Wyoming!  I would sure love to though!

Wyoming drew 7362 tonight, that was probably the deciding factor.

Looking forward to seeing your team this weekend, hope a lot of Jackrabbit fans can make it to Laramie, should be a great game.[/quote]

Scotty must have been quoting an attendance figure from somewhere else.  That is a great crowd and can understand going to Wyoming if that is the case.

I agree, I thought I heard on the postgame that the crowd in Laramie was more like 3500. If 7000+ is true, then it makes more sense. When I first heard we were going to Wyoming, I think I had smoke coming out of my ears considering the estimated attendance was so low. This at least provide some consolation.

To our wonderful moderators: What will happen on Sunday with the message board? I think it might be in big trouble.

I will be at the game cheering extra loud. If anyone wants a pitstop at 6 hours my family lives North of Sturgis. I am going to go visit them and then continue to the game. I also plan to drive straight through after the game and return to brookings around 5 AM.

I'd say pool together $200 or so for gas and load up two vehicles just like my buddies and I did years back when our men's team went to Louisville.

In front of a record setting crowd of gold-clad fans, the Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team (24-9, 11-5 in the MWC) held on for a thrilling 64-62 win over the Oregon Ducks (17-14 overall) on Thursday night in Laramie. Re: WNIT Round 4

So here's my take on the WNIT choosing Wyoming over SDSU to host. They're clueless, only interested in cash, and couldn't see the value to their tournament of what was happening at Frost. Here we have the first-ever transitional team, playing before record crowds and downing big-name programs. The WNIT chose cash over a great story that was starting to get a good bit of traction regionally and even nationally. For example, there was a reporter from Atlanta at the game last night at SDSU who just stopped by on his way to Minneapolis because he heard something great was going on here. He was blown away by the atmosphere and by the play of our team. He wouldn't have been the last national reporter to notice what's going on here.

So naturally, the WNIT chooses a few bucks over potentially very valuable publicity for their near media-blacked-out tourney (seen any WNIT on ESPN SportsCenter lately? The Indy Star didn't even cover IU's games...)

But, hey, Wyo has a little more money and a whopping 1,000 more fans. Let's ditch the best atmosphere in women's basketball (ask Coach Legette-Jack, from the Big Ten, about that) and send Cinderella to 7200 feet to play in a half-empty cave of an arena (I've been to Arena Auditorium, the Double-A... it's kind of cool looking, but is nothing special and at its best the atmosphere is nothing close to Frost.)

I guess it's too much to ask for the WNIT to take a storyline into account, even if any marketing undergraduate could perceive the value of what a story like the Cinderella, transition Jackrabbits playing in Frost could do for a tournament that gets almost no publicity. Of course these are the geniuses who took Indiana's money last year and gave them a game that brought in 600 people... and they wonder why some teams refuse to play in their tournament.
                  Holy nutmeg!

JimmyJack, as much as I want to be upset at the WNIT for their choice, you can see reasons why they would make the decision this way.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of factors such as:

                      1. The teams aren't "seeded" other than those that got a buy, so we don't know which team is rated highest.
                      2. Give Wyoming credit, they also had a record crowd of 7300+ for their game and their arena may have enough to hold more as were Frost was sold out.
                      3. We have no idea what each team bid to host each game nor do we know how big of a factor cash is.
                      4. Frankly, we don't know the exact criteria the WNIT uses for most of it.
                      5. Does the fact that we are in transition hurt us in our bid to host this round?

It's hard to fault the WNIT for their decision because they are a privately run tournament. YES, these people are trying to make a living. I'm thankful they put this thing on! If you run a business and you could sell your product for $xx,xxx and you could sell it for $20,000 more to someone else which would you do? Asking them to take $20,000 less because of a good story isn't going to happen.

I'm sure everyone is as disappointed as I am that we are not hosting the next round, but there is one thing we can do about it! We need to travel well to Wyoming and give them all the support we can. I'm trying to find a way to get out there and I'm sure others are as well.

Looking at the brackets and the attendance for the teams remaining, it is a real possibility that we could host another game if we beat Wyoming!

The focus is on beating Wyoming!

Thanks to everyone who had a part in putting on a great event last night! Most importantly thanks to the coaches and the ladies for a great effort. It was a game that Jackrabbit fans will never forget!

You're right, of course. I'm just saying that the WNIT might have had a nice story on its hands, and much more publicity for its tourney, had they allowed the run to continue in Brookings. Also note that Wyo's ticket prices were less than one-half of what we charged, so they're throwing in gobs of cash on top of the gate, which is their prerogative.

Oh, well. Life is unfair sometimes. Let's just beat Wyo and get back to Frost.

                          for everyone's information...

Wyoming gave away free student tickets last night...over 1000. They also had to give away free pizza to draw additional crowd. That 7000 fans is very deceiving. Take away the free tix, and the $$$ issue in laramie, then game is in Brookings.

That's sort of misleading. The tickets were free to the students, but they were paid for by a booster, so the revenue was generated either way. All of the attendance was paid as far as the NIT is concerned.

The biggest reason why it is coming to Laramie is potential revenue. On a weekend with the excitement starting to build around the Women's team, you should expect around 8-9k at this weekend's game (more if alot of SDSU fans are able to make the trip). The AA is the same arena used for Men's games so it holds 15,028 capacity. I am sure if Frost was bigger the location choice may have been different.

I haven't heard anywhere on how things work with the WNIT. Do they get part of the gate? Do they get strictly whatever was bid by the host team? How much of a factor is seeding? In the press conferences that I heard with the WNIT, they kind of danced around the issue without any concrete answers.

Don't know that we will get the answer but what does bode well for us in the future is the turnout that we did have for the two games. Tom Douple from the Mid-Con was there last night and was extremely impressed with the atmosphere in Frost Arena!

Too bad we lost the host site for the Wyoming game. Frost is a great facility for basketball and could be a great recruiting tool considering the excitement and good PR for the program as a result of the first two WNIT games. We are now in the big leagues and need to increase the attendance capacity of the arena in order to better compete for future tournaments. I know we can not compete with the majors and their arenas but we can improve over the 6000 figure.

What is the capacity of Frost without fire code problems? Are there plans to get rid of the track now that the wellness center is being constructed? Are there plans to add seats besides the existing restrictions?

I was able to drive up from St Joseph, MO for the first game and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Good luch Jacks in the next three games!
