Gusso is a new assistant but they are adding another position as well.
JJ,
You are correct. Gusso is ONE of the new assistants. The decission has been made on the other asst but no public announcement as of yet. Coming out shortly is all I could pry from the knowing mouths.

Going into this hiring of the added assistant I didn't think it would be an established D1 assistant like TV had been mentioning. The reason? I "assumed" this position was the bottom of the totem pole so to speak of the three assistants. It would be rare for an established assistant coach to leave their job for the third assistant job somewhere else.
I'll continue to trust AJ's judgement until he proves otherwise. Remember he didn't have any accolades and little prior experience before taking over the head job either.
I agree with all of you when you say that AJ hasn't steered us wrong yet. I see Oletzke was at Southwest State(MN) so he must have recruiting contacts in our main recruiting area.
AJ must of wanted something from him that he could help our basketball program develop, coaching ability, contacts for recruiting, whatever it is ,I'll trust that he made the right decision.
I can't believe Megan Vogel did not get the job. It would seem after her career at SDSU and all that she did for the University that she would have been a great ambassador and recruiting tool for the program. Maybe she didn't apply??? I think AJ might have missed an opportunity on this one (if she did apply).

Why don't you go ask Megan yourself if she applied. . . I think I've seen tweets from her on Vandrovec's twitter site.
With all due respect, the university owes Megan Vogel nothing. The university provided her a scholarship, a great venue to display her talents, and a terrific fan base to play in front of. I'm glad she came here. That said, she got as much out of the athletic program as the athletic program got out of her ... a win/win.
This is just a very wild guess, but I'm thinking that Megan probably didn't even apply for the job. She is still young and has the opportunity to play professional basketball overseas. She has her whole life to coach, heck some coaches can stomp their heels into their 70's. Most basketball players, though, are lucky to be playing in their mid-30's. I hope Megan follows her heart and if she wants to coach at this time, I'm sure A.J. will be glad to make a few phones calls to make that happen in the near future.
