Re: Ok.. I am ready for basketball...

I was going thru the NCAA statistics for last year comparing the Jackrabbit stats with those of Middle Tenn State U. , and came to the conclusion (sp?) that they are an offensive minded team, we were pretty good on offense , but way better playing defense.Alysha Clark shoots at about 60%, which is unreal to me, considering she attempted over 500 shots last season. Is thier whole conference more offense orientated, where as the Summit is more balanced with offensive production & defensive tenacity?Defensive field goal % was 306th at allowing opposition to score at 43.4% where as we let opposition score at 37.9%, ranking 84 th.Scoring offense was 8th vs. 16th for us, which translates to us scoring 73 pts game to them at 76 pts.We lost our # 1 scorer where as they still have thiers so that gap may or may not widen. We held opponents to 54 pts to them allowing 60 pts.I can't figure out who will have the advantage in the game, so, guess I'll just go and watch it.I do think though that a strong defensive effort might bother them a little bit & limit thier offensive production some.We alway's bring a tough defense. We rebound better too, which gives us way more 3 pt shooting opportunity's to cash in on,we're a pretty good 3 pt shooting team.Of course Jenn Warkenthien was also our best rebounder too.I think I run the risk of over analyzing this particular gameBut this game facinates me , maybe because they took MSU to the wire in the tournement , losing by one point.Likewise we gave Baylor all they wanted.Maybe this game will be for the bragging rights to be considered one of the best mid-major's in the country . Would like for us to play Xavier sometime too.To be the best, you gotta play the best.

Not only do they have Alysha Clark back but I believe they have their entire starting lineup back.

I'd say, play tough defense, contest every shot, don't give them any freebies. If they can limit Alysha Clark to her avg. or below, it will force the rest of the team to shoot well(assuming they don't shoot at a 60% rate, that's a big advantage right there)Out rebounding or forcing turnovers would be a huge factor to winning this game. The idea is for our team to limit thier pocessions to as few as possible, while maximizing our pocessions.Yes, it's just one game in a season of many games, but these are the games that the press and the coaches poll look at.As long as we give a good effort,& there's not one game last year where you could say we didn't put forth a good effort,I'll be happy, win or lose. That's one thing AJ is noted for, putting on the court a team that will give it thier all. They are really balanced in scoring, going six deep for the most part, from 7-1/2 pts a game for Lanning to 12 for Brown.Brown,Lymon,Pickel,Queen,& Lanning account for about 46 pts.,with Clarks 27-1/2.Good three pt shooting % from all the top six players except for Queen at 26% & Lymon at roughly 30%, all the rest at around 40% average for last season.Brown 6'2" forward along with Queen at 6'1" forward, might cause some match up problems.Gaurds at 5'11" for Lanning, 5'5" for Lymon. The top six play a lot of minutes, withthe number seven player in minutes played Garrett at about 9 min ,put in for the long ball it seems ,avg 3 pts. at 66% from 3 pt land , don't know in how many attempts, two out of every three go in , but she only avg's 3 pts game?About 1.5 shots a game i think is all.

Shouldn't we have a couple tune ups before we take on Gonzaga & Ariz. State? When do they normally include the exhibition games to the schedule?
Last yr it was Nov 4. and Nov 9.
Word on the street is that Mankato (MSU) is coming to town for one of our pre-season games.

That is correct. Last years Dll national champions will play the Jacks in preseason in Frost. I do believe they lost plenty of starters from last years team.

Two ex-Bobcats coming back to play in Frost this year. Moe from Mankato and Fargen at USD. I think they both played together on the state championship team?

I knew Gonzaga was going to be tough again, but didn't realize they would have two players on the Wooden Watch List.

I think there is a former Gazelle, Andrea Walsh, on the MSU team, too. At USD Hannah Youngberg and Kara Iverson both play a lot of minute. Iverson and Ketty were in the same class.

I think you are confusing Hannah with Maggie Youngberg. Hannah is on the team but plays very little but yes Kara and Ketty were on the same team in HS.

Last season fading from memory replaced with anticipation of the "new" season" .The uncertainty,as well as the expectations of the upcomming season. Not only womens basketball, but each of the sports the school participates in.That's what i love about sports, just put the prior season behind & look forward to new challenges , & reach for new goals & accomplishments in the comming season.Go jacks!!

My oldest daughter (7 yo) stayed and played with Ketty K. and Steph P. in Pierre this weekend while attending a high school volleyball match. She had a great time with these young women and I'm thankful that she had the opportunity. There really is nothing better than having a successful team at the highest level of competition made up of local athletes. Football, then basketball, then baseball, then......

Yeah, they do. If you were playing in Murfreesboro I wouldn't give you much of a chance, but at your place you have an even shot, and I wish you luck.

Welcome to the board. Hate to correct you right off the bat, but Jacks have a chance against all comers, thank you very much, whether the game is played in Brookings, Murfreesboro, or on a basket against the barn.

Yeah, Baylor fans didn't give us much of chance in Lubbock either. Welcome to the board.
