  • Winning or Losing the 2nd Half

I went back and looked over the year and we have been outscored in the 2nd half twice all season - Maryland & Oakland at Frost (by 1 pt).

For the year, we have been outscored in a total of 7 halves and the only time we did not come back and win was at Oakland.

In 32 games, we have never been outscored in both halves of a game.

You can't teach an old dog new tricks, but you can never teach a stupid dog anything.

Re: Winning or Losing the 2nd Half

Usually, when the shots aren't falling for us, we "buy time" by picking up the defense to keep the other team in striking distance for the time when our teams shot's start falling again. We also do the "other" things, like limiting our turnovers, rebounding, causing turnovers /stealing the ball....etc.Against Oakland the game we lost , i think being the caliber of team they are, we didn't keep the score close enough , although we made it back to within two, i thought it was going to be like the Illinoise game , but we went flat again & allowed them to get the lead up to were we couldn't come back with the amount of time left....the second game we adressed all these things & we beat them soundlyI think the key is ,if your having dificulty in scoring, MAKE SURE you don't let them get away , keep it close.Same as Maryland , once they get a 12 pt. lead, they match you bucket for bucket, that's a team that doesn't experience too many "scoring druoght's" in a game. They are masters of using the ,( oh boy) psychology (sp) of the game, keep the lead & as the time starts running out , the opponent stars doing dumb things, making bad shots ....etc, which ensures a win most of the time ,they always strive for being with the advantage in every game they play.
They let teams self-destruct & beat themselves.

Thanks for posting that. Was just discussing today how AJ seems to really adjust game plans well for the second half. Amazing that the team almost never comes out flat.
