  • Pics of the new women's basketball rooms

I got a tour this morning of some of the new facilities at SDSU.

Here are some pictures of the new team room for the women's basketball team.

Easily my favorite part of the new rooms. The rooms look fantastic but having that up there was the best idea ever.

The pictures of the lockers rooms and lounges are great but simply do not do them justice. Got to see them in person. Absoulely gorgeous facility. If you have the opportunity to tour - don't pass it up.

Good for the players. Much needed space.

I really want to. Just gave me a possible story idea for the Collegian. Thanks Chains

Filbert, most important pieces of furniture were the four framed posters that said "accountability," "communication," "knowledge," and "selflessness."
Thinking of putting them on my own walls

During the open house "locker room" tours in December, we commented on the BCS wall and the framed posters. That's when AJ informed us that the "first" poster was missing. It was being redone because it was misspelled. We can't remember exactly what he said was the "word" on that particular poster, but he said it started with a "J", such as "Justification or Judgement" or something that started with a "J". That's when he said, "If you take the first letter of each word, it's the acronym for JACKS." AJ has a purpose for everything.

              GO JACKS!!!

I would guess 'judgment' would be the first, as it is frequently spelled 'judgement', and while that's acceptable, per Merriam-Webster, it's decidedly not preferred....

Sorry Zoo, sure didn't mean to offend you, but thanks for the spelling lesson. At least now we know there are 2 ways to correctly spell it.

                  GO STATE!!!

Not according to my Civil Procedure professor. He hated the fact they gave the OK to the alternate spelling.

                      Oh ya,
Well B. Gates and MS Word gives one of these words the red squiggly, and the other one doesn't get it; you figure out who should make the call.
Hmmmmm, Billionaire countless times over, or a couple of guys known for a book that just has a few updates each year. Both extremely successful.

I always go with the red squiggly lines recommendations, just so ya know.

I, on the other hand, got the 'either is acceptable' speech from John Taylor over in English (and at the time, one of the editors of "Lexicography", the journal of dictionary editors).

The difference is whether you're going to be prescriptive (that is, tell people what is acceptable) or descriptive (where you describe the way a word is generally used).

Dr. Taylor is a big fan of descriptive lexicography, and points out that one of the remarkable things about English is that it is simple enough in structure to change dramatically in short periods of time. His assertion is that prescribing (and proscribing) usages is like trying to hold back the tide with a broom.

Judgement is considered acceptable by M-W and even the pronunciation judg - uh -ment is noted by them (IIRC). Pronunciation of the now dismissed 'e' is most common in the Great Lakes to Appalachian region (Ohio, Michigan, WV, Pennsylvania).

                        -----

However, because certain spellings and usages (such as, oh, say 'potatoe') are not generally accepted you should be careful how and where you use them.

Oh, and I still think that BCS poster is cool

I'd get the Thread Drift Whacking Stick out, but I'd have to start with myself.
