If ANYTHING less than 6000 is the attendance sunday at laramie, I'm gonna be so pissed. On the other hand, a smaller crowd gives us a better shot.

Scotty was saying that our attendance was like 6053 tonight which is another record.  3900 watching the Wyoming Oregon game.  I don't see how we don't host the next game but we will see!

DOES ANYONE WANT TO GO BACK TO D-2 NOW?!?!?!?

You got me thinking...If we beat Wyoming, I understand that is a big if, then we play either Auburn or K-State. I got bored and looked up their attendences for both WNIT games. K-State had 1732 and 1747 and K-State had 752 and 1232. I'm not sure if those numbers would make a difference in us hosting another game, but they can't hurt. But first we need to take care of business in Laramie this weekend.

visiting with a couple key players tonight after they found out they are traveling - we are going to go to WY and win so we can have another game in Frost - great attitude, and i won't bet against them

I hope we get another shot at hosting a game. I don't mean to sound like I don't have faith in the women's team. I just don't have faith in the WNIT. Hope I'm wrong.

                Jacks rally to top Indiana

BROOKINGS - South Dakota State won again Thursday night, not because of the delirious record crowd of 6,053 or because it played particularly well; but because it wouldn't lose.

The 60-53 victory against Indiana in the third round of the WNIT wasn't easy and it wasn't pretty; sometimes the Jackrabbits cracked like the blue painted on the bellies of so many male fans. Yet they overcame a 13-point deficit and, for the second straight game and to the delight of a second straight sellout crowd, scored the final eight points leading up to the nearly inaudible final buzzer.

In their first - the state's first - go around in the NCAA Division I postseason the Jacks are wrapping their well-toned arms around the idea of survive and advance, securing it like a rebound.

Cliche? Maybe, but certainly not old. In its third season at the D-I level, SDSU is in the quarterfinals - its first Elite Eight appearance of any kind since the Division II swan song in 2003-04 - and will play at Wyoming (24-9) at 3 p.m. CDT Sunday. . . . (read more)

The game sold out in fours hours and the fans lucky enough to get tickets began lining up seven hours before tip. When the doors opened, they ran into Frost Arena as if it were Wal-Mart and Thursday night were Black Friday.

This doesn't happen every day in women's basketball, and Mid-Continent Conference Commissioner Tom Douple came to Brookings on Thursday to see what his league - which has accepted South Dakota State beginning next season - is getting into.

"Taking it all in," he said. "It's really great.

They've got a good program. We've been tracking it all year, finally have an opportunity to come watch them play. Any time you sell out 6,000 seats in four hours you're doing it right, and they're to be commended."

They're perhaps putting themselves in position to host the men's and women's Mid-Con tournament.  .  .  .  (read more)

Please keep in mind if SDSU was to host the Mid-Con Tournament they would have to do it in Sioux Falls (Mid-Con rules state that the games must be on a neutral court).

It just keeps getting better and better to be a Jackrabbit fan. Can't wait to hear from those that were at the game.[/quote]

Well I'll throw my two cents in. I was sitting up top on the west end. The Jacks started out pretty sloppy. They kept shooting themselves in the foot with poor passes and cold shooting. I think they shot something like 3-21 from three-point land in the first half. It was like AJ said in the post-game--it took them about 15 minutes in the first half to settle down and understand what Indiana was going to try to do. But they cut the lead down to 3 I think at halftime and things were quite a bit better in the second half. Indiana played some scrappy defense and it looked like the 6'7" girl created some problems under the basket. We still had plenty of shots from close range that didn't fall, but fortunately we hit free throws. The crowd was electric yet again. The student bleachers were MOVING when they started bouncing at the start of the game. It got LOUD in there on numerous occasions. I hope we can get another game at Frost. No matter when it is or what else is going on, it will sell out and it will be a tremendous atmosphere.

I was able to get ga tickets but had to drive from SF. So we didn't have the best seats in the house, but I wouldn't have missed that game for the world. Also, I'm a little upset with the WNIT's decission on giving WY the home game. I assume their arena holding 16,000 has a lot to do with it....

                        It was a great game.

                        The Crowd was awesome!

Indiana is to be commended for doing a great job. With only 7 players, they gave us everything we could handle.

That "amoeba" zone defense of theirs, is spectacular. Makes me want to use it.

I felt we were really fortunate, when we hit our cold spell at the end, Indiana went to the line several times, and hit only 1 of 2 free throws. So instead of pulling ahead, by like 4...it was tied.

Great, Gutty performance by the ladies.

I thought Bean was our best player tonight. Made good decisions, hit open players, and hit open jump shots(she seemed to be the only one). I thought both Muck and Anderson looked a little tentative...but were overshadowed by the play of the freshman Corneman played great, and Nielson did a nice job in relief of Grimsrud.

That, and the fact that the Wyoming-Oregon game drew more than 7000 fans the same night. When the guarantees are close, the WNIT says it looks to crowd attendance as one of the factors. With a bigger arena, I would guess Wyoming was able to up their bid and I suspect it will be a very large crowd at Wyoming Sunday.

I was with some folks after the game and one was complaining that the department had dropped the ball. That is so short-sighted IMHO. Be thankful the administration got us two of the greatest evenings I have enjoyed in a long time! Gotta go get packed to go out and watch us beat the Cowgirls!!

7,000 fans who paid $5 or $9 to get in versus 6,000 fans who paid $13 to $19. Hmmm. Obviously Wyoming is pulling a K-State/Indiana trick and just tossing in a gigantic bag of cash. Meanwhile, the WNIT is giving up a great story and the best atmosphere in women's basketball.

This isn't the fault of anyone at SDSU. It'll all be moot when Megan and her friends go to Laramie and win in the half-empty cave that is Arena Auditorium. Then maybe the WNIT will think 6,000 fans in Frost paying $15 to $25 each might be a good option.
                            Holy nutmeg!

With only seven players, I was very impressed with IU. The Hoosiers played about as good of defense that I seen this year. I shutter to think how the game would have played out if they would came with a full roster. They are well coached, and our women often did not get good shoots. I really think its incorrect to suggest the Jackrabbit women were sluggish in starting out. The Hoosiers found a good way to match up on D and having the tall center could have been more dangerous if she had gotten more inside passes. To our credit, several passes did not make it to McKay the Center who is 6'7". She was not a prodject, but had not our Jacks broken up the plays designed for the center inside, it could have been a different ball game.

Of the entire seven, I noticed a great deal of talent. I kind of wonder if the one player from Marshfield Wisconin No 23 Jamie Baun was ever on our recruiting list.

Well on to Wyoming and good luck Ladies. Lets come out with another win.
