    Re: UC Davis Game Thread

About the article in the argus, I did notice yesterday that the swimming article had 91 recommendations, which seems quite odd for a USD article, considering I don't think I've ever seen one with more than about 25 recommendations. My first thought was someone was "stuffing the ballot box"...maybe the website folk saw the same and deleted the fake votes but couldn't adjust the list....anyhow...back to the game last night.....the Jacks need to hit free throws at a better clip than 50%.

Gave me a tingling feeling up and down my leg when I saw the ESPN ticker after the game when the NCAAW scroll showed- UCD 47 #22 S Dkta St 59. Plus it was the only women's score shown.

This is one thing about ESPN that bothers me. Is there anything our SID can do to have them list our team as S Dakota St. rather than the Dakta crap we get now? Its just one more letter!!

        Grr.

You would think that they might be able to figure out, oh, I don't know, "S Dak St" as a better abbreviation . . .

I know what you mean! That drives me bonkers as well.

            "o".

ESPN ticker guy: "There. Wow, that was a lot more work, we better just keep it with that obnoxious contraction that looks like we don't know how to spell."

              Terry's write-up of the game:

SDSU women hold on to win ranked debut
Seventh straight victory for No. 22 Jackrabbits
              Terry Vandrovec • December 18, 2008

BROOKINGS - Moving into the NCAA Division I top 25 for the first time does not seem to have changed the South Dakota State women's basketball team - for better or for worse.

The No. 22 Jackrabbits overcame yet another early deficit to beat UC Davis 59-47 on Wednesday night before a crowd of 1,894 at Frost Arena, surviving their top-25 debut.

It was the eighth time this season that SDSU (11-1) rallied from at least eight points down to win and the Jacks' eighth victory against a team that qualified for the Division I postseason last year.

"Maybe I need to adjust what I talk about right before we come on the floor because we haven't really had great starts," coach Aaron Johnston said. "I'm really proud of the team, the way they've always been able to come back. I think that's a good credit to our defense."

I was there, I haven't had time to read the thread.

Lackluster performance but a win none-the-less. You take them anyway you can get them.

Had a nice long talk with several alumni about the men's program. Interesting views but most in support of Coach Nagy and cautiously optimistic feelings about the Summit League season.

                  Re: UC Davis Game Thread

I was at the UC Davis game two years ago and watching last nights game it looked like I was reliving that game from two years ago. I think that the style of play employed by Davis really gets SDSU out of rhythm. There defense was really good, I thought. They were trapping and getting their hands on a lot of balls. I'm just glad we are done playing them.

                  Go State!!!

I have never seen a team slap and kick so many passes as UC Davis did last night. It was incredible. It was really really pissing off the guy behind me (of course, according to him, it wasn't UC Davis's good D, it was SDSU's "stupid" players....see my previous post). UC Davis played a whale of a defensive game, really made SDSU passing game look terrible.

Dear Grumpiest guy in the world:

Yes, I'm calling you out Mr. Section C Row 8 Seat 12. Why do you bother coming to Jackrabbit games? You obviously don't come for your enjoyment. I never saw you clap once...not for nice plays, not for the school song, not for the cheerleaders, not steals, rebounds, or 3 pointers. You made the game almost unbearable for me tonight, as well as several others around our seats.

I know the Jackrabbits didn't play their best ball tonight. I know it was an ugly game. I know we had a lot of unforced turnovers, and missed a ton of free throws. But SDSU did win the game, by double digits in fact. Take some pride in the Jackrabbits and actually CHEER for SDSU's good plays instead of bickering and complaining about every bad play.

Thank God I don't sit in Section C Row 7 Seat 11 every game, as I would most likely eventually rip your larynx right out of your throat just to shut up your constant whining and complaining.

Again, you, Mr. Section C Row 8 Seat 12 are truly unbearable to be around, and next time I will turn around and kindly ask you to shut the frack up with your incessant rambling, bickering and complaining and instead actually cheer for the Jackrabbits.
Hey, that's the seat I sit in. Just kidding. I'll have to watch the next game and see if there is any change in the "fan".
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

hehe..negative, he was in Row 3 or 4...next to President Chicoine.

(I sometimes feel out of place sitting in our company seats with so many big names around our 4 seats....Chicoine, Thune, Van Fishback...etc. etc...)

Don't know who sets in sec C row 8 seat 12 and don't care. Don't know who you are in sec C row 7 seat 11 and don't care either. Don't even know where section C is and don't care. At least C,8,12 was at the game and supporting the Jacks with his presence. The fans we should call out are the hundreds and maybe thousands of fans not attending the games. Sec C, row 8, seat 12 paid for his seat and is welcome to his opinion I guess. You'll just need to cheer louder and off set his negative approach.

Don't just assume he paid for those seats. I'm sure there are plenty of people in the good seats for the early games that are getting freebies from friends and family. At least he was there though. Hopefully he bought some food at the concession stand to help the coffers a little bit.
