    Re: Preseason Favorite

And for the first two exhibition games, Morgan Meier was in street clothes on the bench. Add her back into the rotation and we just got a little deeper. I am not sure on her injury but it looked like she had tape on her nose. Maybe she will need to play with the face guard for part of the year again. I hope she is back in the lineup soon.

I bet the women didn't run sets either, or did they?????
That would be quite remarkable to only lose 3 games with the schedule they have. Keep in mind if they make the tournament unless they win it all (HIGHLY unlikely) they will lose a game there. That means only two regular season losses. Unfortunately, as good as I think they will be I expect more losses than that even before the start of conference games.
With teams like Maryland, Missouri, Illinois, Minnesota on the shedule I expect anywhere from 4 - 7 losses at a minimum. Still that would be a remarkable year.

I'm with Boxerboy...while I believe this team is going to have an absolutely great season...three losses is a stretch. Maryland has two pre-season All Americans back and it will be a heck of a challenge for us in Cancun. Throw in the ones BB mentioned, but add Utah, possible top-25 team, Gonzaga and Valparaiso to the list of pretty good challenges. Let's not underestimate the challenge this team faces...as AJ has put together a great, tough schedule, which will help us win the conference and make the final 64!

Exactly.....these girls are going to be scary good...I can't wait. Without a doubt the best team SDSU has EVER had on paper. The fact that they are so deep is going to be huge as we can hopefully wear down many opponents. The fact they will likely bring Rotert and Young off the bench tells you just how deep they are.

i could see rotert replacing cornemann in starting lineup, well maybe not. they are actually pretty equal, either one could start.

I like the 'instant offense' Rotert brings off the bench...but in all honesty, we probably have 9-10 ladies that will be averaging 12+ min/game

Might want to drop ORU a spot or two after this:

UCO was led by Lizzie Brenner's double-double effort, as she tallied 20 points and 10 rebounds while both Ashley Beckley and Mallory Markus tacked on 12 points apiece.

ORU shot 42.6 percent (29-68) from the field compared to UCO's 39.7 percent (25-63) but the Bronchos shot 80.6 percent (25-31) from the free throw line, while ORU only shot 60.9 percent (14-23).

The Golden Eagles started off on a 4-0 run in the first half and led 13-5 at 15:12 as Voelker scored four points in the first five minutes. UCO took a 16-2 run and took its first lead of the game at 21-15 with 9:16 left to play in the first half. The Golden Eagles took their lead of the game at 29-28 with 3:48 remaining while the Bronchos took a one point lead at 40-39 at the end of the first half.

UCO came out in the second half on fire scoring 15 points in the first four minutes. The Bronchos took a 10 point lead, 58-48, with 14:46 to play, while the Golden Eagles would come back to tie it up at 64-all with 9:03 remaining. The game would be tied again at 68-all and ORU took three more one point leads, its last at 73-72 with 4:40 to go. A three-pointer by UCO's Traci Murphree would give the Bronchos the lead for good with 4:40 left to play.

ORU better fire their coach and cut all of their players because losing this exhibition game means they have no D-I talent on their roster.

Two last year if I remember correctly. Might have something to do with why the losses are looked at differently

Lets not take a few posters overreacting to an exhibition loss too far. If your a fan who wants us to accept exhibition losses to DII teams as status quo please give me a break. If you are so sensitive to criticism when its clearly merited given the recent performance and repeated underachievement of the men's program, whatever the excuse you choose to select, so be it. Don't try and tell me that its expected and irrelevant given what we have seen the last 4 years.

I'll say it in as logical a fashion as possible. Take it for what it is worth. The loss against SWMS is relevant only because of the precedent set the last 4 years. Can that precedent be proven irrelevant? Sure it can but to suggest that a loss to SWMS doesn't speak to that precedent is an argument I won't recognize. Anyone who has sold the program out on the basis of that game is foolish. However, anyone who suggests we should ignore that result and expect a major improvement as compared to recent years is also foolish. Should we be better? I sure hope so. We have several talented players with an extra year of experience. Do we have an inside game? Doesn't look like it and I'm not sure we have defined who is going to be in charge in the back court either.

So, those of you who want to be so critical of the many fans who share discontent about the direction of the men's program better recognize that they have everything to prove this year. I'll be at Frost and on the road as much as possible to support this team. Please don't look for excuses like other teams embarrassing losses as a way to bolster confidence in our program. We need to earn it. Referring to another teams embarrassment does not correct our own.

                                Re: Preseason Favorite

Two facts about exhibition losses to lower division teams:

                                1) They suck. Bigtime. Ask Michigan State how they felt losing to . . . I think it was Grand Valley State last year about this time. It's an embarrassment. It shouldn't happen. But it occasionally does.

                                2) They have no effect on record, RPI, or anything, except the fragile psyches of those with fragile psyches. We can hope that the fragile psyches do not include the players and coaches. Exhibitions are and always will be glorified practices--the only thing which makes them not a practice is that they are run like a regular game.

Yeah, an exhibition loss is a warning siren. But it's not a signal to abandon ship--quite yet, anyway.

My tagline (and hence sunny optimism) applies . . .
                                "I think we'll be OK"
