Starting to get fired up for the start of women's basketball. Has anyone head how this year's freshman are looking in workouts (Johnson, Westergard, Sunnarborg)?

Terry said that SDSU believes they got a "steal" in Johnson. He also said the the Westergard and Sunnarborg will fight for the backup spot at center. He threw Jill Young in there too since she couldn't play last year. She is supposedly a better shooter than Rotert.

No question she is a better shooter than Rotert! BUt Rotert will be the player that makes the biggest strides this season. Johnson is College READY!

        Re: Current Freshman

The Iowa State women's basketball team held its media day this week and Alexis Yackley is projected to battle for the starting point guard position with another freshman on an otherwise veteran team that's picked to finish third in the tough Big 12. Did SDSU recruit Yackley? I'm surprised Iowa State was able to pluck her out of South Dakota while the Jackrabbits grabbed Cala Westergard out of Iowa State's backyard...understanding that different teams have different recruiting needs in any given year.

I'd like to see the Jackrabbits and Cyclones play. Iowa State always has a team where almost everyone can shoot the 3, they usually don't have a center whose a major presence in the middle but is quick, they have a beloved coach who turned the program around big-time and they rank among the tops in the nation in attendance.

Hope to see the Jackrabbit men play at Iowa State in December.

Quick tease from the Brookings Register today about the freshmen.
“Jill is interesting because she sat out last year,” says Johnston. “Having a year of experience has helped her in terms of confidence. Vanessa is doing a real good job on the perimeter too. She really picks up things well athletically.”
The two post players Jennie Sunnarborg and Cala Westergard are doing well. The post position is a hard one to pick up at the college level, because you have to be more physical and move so much differently than you did in high school. As both of them get more reps, they both show they have bright futures.”
