  • Re: Wyoming- Game Thread

I was exactly right: One Wyo starter fouled out. One K-State starter fouled out.

Anyway...talking about a disparity, without talking about the reason for the disparity, doesn't really get to the point. (You could note that Wyo -- in wins or losses, on the road or at home, almost always has a bunch fewer fouls than its opponents. That's because of the stress on defense, and how they run their offense.)

Anyway...I sure hope we get, as some on this board have talked about, SDSU on our regular schedule, home and away. A neighboring state, small school, fine players, fine coach, fine fans (I talked to a bunch of your fans when they traveled here to Laramie)...college sports doesn't get any better than that.

My apologies, you are correct your one starter fouled out and the three girls that played against her all fouled out (starter and two backups).  I still say that 52 free throws to 18 is a huge margin that makes you go hmmm in a triple OT game.  :-/

Thanks. It sure is a huge disparity, and it came from Wyo starting at minute 1 to drive to the hoop, especially against mismatches. In other words it came from very deliberate K-State decisions: 1) to put all their defense on the perimeter, to take away what they thought was going to be a barrage of outside shooting. 2) to not -- and this was inexplicable, and a *huge* coaching error -- never change their defense, to play a zone or at least match-up zone, when they saw what was happening.

I fault K-State's coach, to be honest. I think K-State was deeper and more talented than Wyo. (Let's face it, whatever the foul situation, it took some miracle three to put that game into overtime.) But -- and God forgive me for being negative -- K-State's coach through the entire game (I'm not talking about just for stretches) decided that, instead of trying out different strategies, it would be better to stomp around and make faces about foul calls. It was almost suicidal. I don't fault coaches for working the referees. But she stopped coaching, and it also trickled down to her players, who on the floor complained to the refs after every single call, even the obvious fouls. I have no problem believing that Wyo got a few calls just because the refs were sick of that whole team.

Well the one thing we can agree on is that it was good to see Wyoming win that game.  Best of luck, beat the Badgers, win the WNIT Championship.

            Thanks.

I wish that Wyo and SDSU had been in different brackets. I honestly think we'd be playing each other for the title...which would have been fabulous, and extremely satisfying after we've been teaching all these big schools a thing or two.

Good luck in your season next year.

Thanks for the good wishes. As I said, it should have been SDSU and Wyoming in the final game.

Take my word for it, Wisconsin couldn't stay in the gym with Wyoming...and it would have been the same if SDSU had played the Badgers.
