I said we could lose any game because we rely so heavily on the 3 and some nights you don't make enough of them. Well, there you have it. You live by the 3 you die by the 3. I'm not sure what AJ is going to have to say about a 4-23 performance from the arc. I say its pitiful.
We are here to add what we can to life, not get what we can from life. -Sir William Osler
We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are.
Welcome, again, to the Summit League. If you don't come out of the locker room ready to play, you're going to get beat.
I think both the men's and the women's teams are still figuring out how to handle the conference road trips--and the Summit League has road trips as difficult as any in any D-I conference. With all of the travel hassles it's got to be hard to maintain the level of intensity that's required to compete night in and night out.
But you know what? Champions figure out how to do it.
Still . . . three or four losses might still win the conference regular season. That means that the Jacks have pretty much lost their margin of error.
But any game in Tulsa, Rochester, MI, Macomb, or Brookings looks like a pretty tough road game for anybody to win this year in the Summit.
AJ cited the lack of toughness and intensity out of the gates as why they lost the game tonight. He said the first 10 minutes was the worst 10 minutes they've played all year. And then they gained some momentum until the last 2 minutes and then it went away again. He commended the freshman and sophomores for keeping them in the game and said the upperclassman didn't show up to play. His comment on the 3s statistic was that it was "misleading." He said they took a lot of bad and "ill-advised" shots from behind the arc. He didn't seem to think that was much of a factor in the loss at all. He says this team has to learn how to play hard every night and not just when they want to. That part reminds me of our early days of D-I when we had to get accustomed to the stiff competition night in and night out.
He kept coming back to the team's toughness or lack their of. He said this team has been hard to figure out in that regard and said tonight the coaches could sense the lack of intensity during warm-ups.
We went from potentially being in first place in the Summit League to now being in a tie for 4th place. A lot of Summit League play left hopefully we can figure out how to play each night!
Lastly, AJ said the team did achieve a 3.6 team GPA the fall semester. That's very impressive!
Just looked at the stats of Go Jacks. Can anyone who listened tell my why Ketty only played 7 minutes?
I was wondering the same thing. Listened to the game, but didn't hear anything about why she wasn't in more. I had Kansas-Oklahoma game on tv at the same time, so could have missed it.
