    Re: George Washington Univ.

Just got back to the hotel and a computer. Jacks played a heck of a game. Made lots of mistakes, but credit GW with some of that. On the other hand, our defense caused them to make a lot of mistakes, and frustrated them as well.

Shots didn't fall early, there was certainly some tension showing for the Jacks -- and why not. Highest rated team they have played, and lots of very young ball players on the floor, and on their home court. The biggest flaw, in my judgment, was when we got into a running game with them about the six minute mark (approximate) and we stopped them three straight times and had fast breaks going with numbers, and we had three straight turnovers. That really hurt. Clutch shooting at the end, but it was just a little too late.

Ketty got bottled at the corner and had picked up the dribble, and she had to try to lean forward between the two defenders and force a shot up with 12.8 seconds left and we were behind by three. In hindsight, which is awfully easy now, we had one time out left and it would have been good if she would have called it, so we could set up an inbounds scoring play. Easy to say now!

I was very proud of our team. GWU should, on paper, run us off the court, especially at home, and with our key players who are out. But they didn't.

Western Kentucky may give them a pretty good run tomorrow, and if we play anywhere near as good as we did today, we can handle the Salukis tomorrow. GO JACKS!!!!

If ever you have one, this was a "good loss." On the road, playing a top 20 team, and missing three key players.

The Jacks need to hold their heads high, come out, and beat up on the Salukis tomorrow.

Then, we'll see if the pollsters notice us a bit more next week. If we keep winning, we might just crack a poll or two by the time January rolls around . . .

Just a comment on the GWU trip. GWU didn't have much problem in beating Western Kentucky 80-63, and they didn't have Parish for the night (she was injured in our game, but played much of it.)

Another tribute to our Jacks, who took GWU to the wall and with one break might have sent them down. Keep winning GWU...it's good for our rpi!!!! GO JACKS!!

George Washington(5-2) was upset tonight at James Madison(5-0)... Haven't heard of them much but must be pretty good considering they extended their home winning streak to 29 games... Bad for us, good for them...

Although I'm not real high on realtimerpi's ratings, they do have James Madison at #8 this week. As said elsewhere, way to early to see more relevant ratings, with the major ratings systems (besides the AP poll) not up and running yet.
