I know going through Grad School, my Biomechanics Professor does a lot of biomechanical testing of shoes. He says the brand of shoes that do the best in the testing are Brooks, New Balance, Asics, etc. It was also brought up that the NIKE brand (I personally am a NIKE supporter) are constructed to feel good when the consumer tries them on in the Athletic Shoe Store.

I've always felt Nike running shoes were crap, until I tried out a pair of Airmax180s, which completely changed my mind. Normally Nike's seem to fall apart after about 8-9 months of hard use, but these 180's are still going strong. Adida running shoes are also good IMO. As far as basketball, Nike always seemed pretty decent I thought, but something's gotta be up with these considering what's happening now. Do the girl's have the option of different types of Nike shoe, or are they all stuck wearing the same type?

Re: Bad Shoes or Bad Feet?

I don't know I have a friend that broke his ankle and he said that Lebrons were the best afterwards.... He got shocks the next year but didn't like them as much.... I've talked to numerous basketball players and they all said you would be surprised how width and weight of a shoe affects your game.....

The three things when looking at a basketball shoe are
        1. weight
        2. width
        3. grip

I know Lebrons are good at all of them but I doubt that the team shoe is the Lebrons....

I remember seeing something a year or 2 ago when a school had a deal with a shoe company but there was 1 or 2 players that wouldn't wear that shoe so they had to put tape over the logo of the shoe they were wearing....

The fact about quality is that basketball shoes are generally the worse.... I did a report on basketball shoes last year and found that most players use them 1 season because the grip goes first then they start to fall apart.....

Do the Jacks have an actual team shoe though.... like jordans or something or is it just you have to have a nike shoe?

Didn't they just resurface the floor after painting on the new Summit League logos? May have used a harder finish? Harder surface...more traction...more stress on feet/legs. I don't remember hearing shoes squeaking on the floor like they used to. Just my opinion. If it was the shoe, you would think other teams using that shoe would have the same problem. And maybe they do, I don't know. Again, just an opinion.

I still think the main thing may be the switch from a men's shoe that some of the girls were wearing to a women's shoe this year. Width is the big difference in the two and if they are making the girls cram a wide foot into a narrower shoe that could be the problem.

With all of the technology available in podiatry and individual running motions, I would hope that having a team shoe and looking the same would not be more important than the health of a basketball player's feet. Ask Bill Walton what bad feet did to his NBA career.

There aren't wide versions of women's shoes?

I guess that I'm not sure if they would make a wide version of each teams shoe for them or not. Under normal circumstances there are a very limited number of shoe styles made that women can get in wide or narrow for that matter. I think it is even more difficult to find a men's shoe in a narrow. Most women's shoes are made in B width and men's are D width.

Support is the main thing.... I know that a lot of the girls in my high school wore guys shoes.....

Re: Bad Shoes or Bad Feet?

Coach Johnston just said in the pre-game (Utah) that we should worry less about what is causing the injuries and pay more attention to the stories about the players who are carrying the team now.

He needs to start paying attention to what is happening with his players. There has to be a reason and you'd think he would want to find out what it is.

Not sure how HIPPA laws apply here. The medical provider can't release info to anyone but the patient or their spouse/guardian. If the players volunteer the info to the coach its probably okay for him to comment on it. I'm no JD but I think that about how it goes.

I don't think this is what AJ is doing (I'd sure be sad if he is), but HIPPA is often used as an excuse not to give out information to the press, etc. It's beyond common sense. Way beyond.

And, as far as the foot injuries, I am no expert, but it's tough to believe the shoe change doesn't have something to do with all of the problems. That is nothing but my two-bit opinion, though. There are just too many problems at the same time. And they seem to be too similar. It's getting old. I'm not mad at the players or anything ... of course not. The situation is just discouraging when you see all the talent we have and how many players are forced to sit on the bench because of this foot epidemic.

                              OK, I'm done bitching now.

I think what AJ is upset about is how fans are caring more about what may cause these injuries instead of caring about the players playing.... As I like to say worry about the players playing not the what if's
