ABSOLUTELY!!! we have proven good players who can barely get on the floor

Kolbeck, Vlastuin, Hopp all had big moments last year. Hopp is getting only garbage time and the other 2 have trouble getting into any rhythm. all 3 of them likely start for almost every other team in the Summit

Need to get Hopp, Vlastuin and Behrens some time to get them back in rhythm. The depth is insane, the defense will continue to shine as teams wear down throughout the season.

They are most likely "dead sticks" anymore. It's too bad but the nature of the game. Even Vlastuin is trending that way, she had soo much promise. But like one poster said when she was a commit, "she's too timid", and that seems to be her downfall. I wish them all the best however it turns out.

i think many many people would take this to sound quite bad. i am sure you did not mean it that way. from my coaching years there is no way around the fact there are only so many minutes to go around as far as getting players on the floor and basketball is BY FAR the toughest sport as far as playing time is concerned. practice all week and for most people getting 20 minutes a game is a LOT. very very few players ever average much over 25 minutes a game

think about that you practice for a couple hours a day several days a week. you put in time in the weight room. plenty of players also find additional time to get up extra shots and / or FTs

after all that at most you play a couple games a week and for most players something between 10 and 20 minutes a game OR somewhere well less than ONE practice session. i would NEVER let any of my players feel like their value to the team is based mostly on game minutes. every player on the roster is very meaningful and important AND i expect all of them to be ready for their number to be called. ALL of the players mentioned in this conversation stepped up big time last year when other players were hurt. they were able to do that because they continued to work hard and understand that they had value despite getting small minutes prior to injuries

more than that, think how few minutes Mesa played before last year. but she kept working and keeping herself ready. she also kept smiling and loving her teammates and cheering for them like crazy. she was arguably the second best post in the league last year, she was second on the team in rebounding last year and leads the team this year (while playing less than 20 (only 18) mins / game). I could go on about her stats but she also adds way more value than stats can explain. the bigger point is that she is a great example that EVERY player is a very important part of the team regardless of minutes on the floor

I feel excellent points. Plus I too have been thinking about Mesa as a great example…she stuck around for basically the best mid major program in the country. Now she is reaping the benefits. I hope she communicates with especially Hopp and Behrens because those two for sure will be needed with 3 front line players gone after this year!!!

Another example of persistence is Megan Bultsma. She became a key reserve as a senior. The earlier statement about the group is a team 7 days a week applies. The redshirt players also contribute to the daily grind and development for the team.

No, I was not trying to say they don't have great value when it comes to the team. Of course they do, but I was simply/bluntly saying that with the available players/rotations we have as of now they're just not a part of that "core" group we see and probably won't see them playing large meaningful minutes unless something changes above them in the "playing time pecking order".
Edit, by changes,it would most likely be injuries

i've always thought that if the regular rotation players can get a big lead, the rest on the bench can get more time on the floor. Against Denver, that seemed to be the case, they started getting in at 3+ minutes in the 4th , instead of about 2 min last season. The fourth Quarter was by far the best for the team for offense against Denver, the passing was sharp and the movement w/o the ball was very, very, good. We got open looks for the shooters and spread them out a little more . I have a good feeling we will get some development for our reservists, as much as we can, throughout this season, but we can't start out so sluggish and error prone with the passing and ball handling if we want to achieve that goal. We will want to continue to be a deep bench team next season as well.

Vlastuin has been described by AJ in the past as the best shooter in the conference. It appears her injury late last season maybe has her off her game a little, but if she gets her shooting form back, AJ will be able to find a role for a shooter of her caliber in the line up. She has one of the lowest 3 point % on the team so there is a huge upside yet!

I'll be rooting for her. Her minutes have taken a dive past 3 games. During the Texas game when she just played 7 I was wondering if it was because of the athleticism/agility/speed of the Texas roster.
