I wouldn’t have guessed originally that Fox would be starting over Colbeck, and when Vlastuin comes back, I’m guessing Vasecka’s minutes will be less. Hopp has played very little, which is surprising to me since she was on the All Freshman team last year. Then when Behrens comes back, if everyone stays healthy, we could have 12 players coming in for valuable minutes during the game… Not just garbage time. Should be quite interesting… I hope this happens, everyone gets valuable minutes, so we can have quite a lineup coming in even for next year, even after losing four players!

Missed layups & turnovers into Brooklyn were a big problem today. The refs were among the worse. The phantom calls and the holding allowed by Duke was unbelievable. This Jackrabbit team will be a handful for anyone on the schedule.

The late foul call on Timmer was terrible.

I don’t agree with you at all about Katie. She will get more minutes as the season progresses, not less.. Her ability to score is already good for a Freshman and will get better. She is long and athletic and her defense will improve. The development of Fox and Vasecka will pay off this year and in the future.

We just hung with the #16 team in the country with 2 true freshmen getting significant minutes. That's crazy! In the past I would have been hoping we played well and finished close. I was actually upset that we didn't win. No one will want any part of the Jacks come March.

The ladies are a top 20 team IMO. Yesterday wasn't a fluke.

Agreed. I think that's where this one felt different. When we hosted Notre Dame years ago and similar teams, it felt like more of a long shot to win and pull off an upset versus yesterday which felt like we should've won it because we have that great of a team and we were right there. Duke was unbelievably athletic and we were able to come back and take a lead in the second half. AJ is still playing with lineups and the final minutes going into halftime killed us with Timmer and Mathiowetz both on the bench. I agree with whoever suggested starting Byom. Theisen is a great defender but hasn't done much offensively.

Oregon, GA Tech, and Ball St are all going to be really tough but great chances to bounce back.

From a lineup perspective I think fox is a high risk high reward player whereas colbeck has a bit more ball control and you know what you’re gonna get. That might be the better option backing up Paige even though vesecka definitely looks the part except for last night. Aj probably feels the lineup could be tighter and will only make them more efficient and win some more of these swing games.

You are probably right about this the more I look at the statistics on 4 games. I see that Vasecka has the fourth highest turnovers per minutes played but also has the fourth highest field-goal percent. Fox has the most turnovers per minutes played and the second lowest field-goal percent behind Colbeck. Colbeck has the second lowest turnovers per minutes played but has not made any field goals.
I do see that Vasecka has done a better job than the other two mentioned although there are other major statistics, like steals, blocks and rebounds and others. So there’s going to be some growing pains, and it will be interesting when everyone gets healthy who is in the game at crunch time!

Agree, we lose four great players after this season , we need to develop more of our bench this season so we can make an easier transition to not having those four seniors after this season ends. Let;s make this a great season for our seniors who will be graduating.

Will we ever have a good pressing team, that press we ran at the end of the game yesterday was pretty dismal, the trap was good, but that was about it. I know, we aren't a pressing team, I get it, but there are some situations like yesterday's where it becomes necessary.

We do have the depth to press this year but that's never really been an AJ style of play. We can usually play half court defense well enough to win. I will say, I was very impressed with how we handled the press. There are a number of teams in the past that would've had double digit turnovers by halftime with that press. Fox for a freshman kept her composure well.
