Also for the last game one of the Freshman was out due to injury and so we were down to 9 players. Then lost one during the game to what sounds like a concussion, so 8 players at the end of the game. As GoJacks said we have a class of 5 coming in next year, so the only player we could add would be a Grad/Senior with one season left. Evidently the staff was unable to find someone who fit that criteria who was also a team fit.
It will be interesting to see if Schetnan might come over after the VB season just for this year. She played both at Louisville, so she has done it before. Just having an extra body could be important if there are anymore injuries/illnesses and you would get a game where a couple players foul out.

Are there any girls on the track team who were good at basketball in high school?

Some good new: Kallie Theisen posted this morning she will be back in uniform next season. Not sure at all how that will work with scholarships but glad she will get the final year she deserves. We will be loaded.

Do Covid years count towards scholarship totals? I don’t believe they do in FB so I’m would assume that is also true in the other sports. Can anyone confirm this?

We will have so much talent to put on the court in '24. It just about seems unfair to the rest of the Summit League, just about.

For all of the injuries and youth, we’ve done quite well. However, the next two weeks will be extremely difficult. I’d be happy going .500 the next 4 games. Big tests starting tomorrow night.

Wow I was wondering about that. I wondered privately if she would come back for another year. Good for Kallie.

Here's a podcast that might shine a little light about our next opponent Dordt and the women's basketball team, starts at the 4:39 mark until the 7:40 mark, seems they are pretty good at pressing I guess, Can never get enough experience going against the press. SDSU briefly mentioned at 7:59 also .

#21 Creighton @ #19 Marquette is the Big East Game of the Week and is available on on the flo hoops youtube page for free if anyone is interested in checking out this year's Creighton roster (which doesn't look all that different). Looks like their game on Sunday at Drake will be available on ESPN+.

Watched the first half of the ORU vs K State game. ORU is making a good showing against the #12 team in the country. If they play like this consistently in league play they are going to be tough. They are fast paced, athletic, and for the most part good shooters. Unfortunately they have no answer for Ayoka Lee tonight who has a double/double in the first half.

Edit, fouls will become troublesome for them in the 2nd half I presume.

Out of curiosity, what will Tori T. do when the softball season starts? Is she going to show up when she can or turn her jersey back in?

i never really started following women's bb till around 2005....give or take. just have a curious question for anyone willing to comment.
no doubt, there is some very good talent on this squad..........however, taking the injuries into consideration and the story about AJ looking for players to help fill out the squad would anyone argue that this season, as far as coaching, may be one of AJ's best? i may be way off base, but, this is something that has crossed my mind.

AJ and staff are doing an excellent job. definitely would not want that to go un or underappreciated. the girls are doing an amazing job!! that said, I think AJ and staff have always done an excellent job of getting good production from the talent at hand and i am not sure i can say he is doing that better this year than in any previous year

the difference, I think is that as fans we probably did not realize how good of players we have had often sitting on our bench the last few years. that is maybe the truly impressive part of the equation. AJ and staff have gotten a player like Mesa to come here and stay here waiting behind Myah, Paiton, and Kallie when she could have been playing for many other good schools. I think it is debatable that Mesa would have been starting and possibly, maybe probably, STARRING for every other school in the Summit that did not have Brooklyn Meyer and Tori Nelson.

ORU- Udomoh is leading the conference in boards but Mesa is beating her in boards per minute and would have more opportunities in that up tempo style. I think she is better than anyone UND or NDSU have. better than anyone USD has, etc... I think Mesa would have been playing over 25 minutes and probably scoring double figures for every other school in the league this year and maybe last year too

Ellie- yes she did get to start last year. she had the opportunity of minutes, but did she have the opportunity of feeling free to shoot?? did she feel like she should defer to Myah or Paiton or Timmer? she struggled with her shooting last year. this year she is not needing to defer. we have 7 players what are we gonna do bench her for Aesoph? her confidence now appears to be through the roof. she has hit 5 threes in back to back games. last year she made SEVEN for the entire year!

my point is, I think the girls like Mesa and Ellie and Maddie M and Maddy V are a lot better than we are giving them credit for. I wonder that this team might not be more talented than the teams between Warkenthien and Macy? for sure the last few teams we have had have been WAY WAY deeper with talent. that is what i do give AJ and staff credit for!! recruiting so much talent and getting them to stay here when they could get more time and more shots at other schools

Maddy V was a SD POY. Mesa highly regarede and decorated in Wisconsin. Maddie M scored over 3700 points in high school and would have been no more than a 4th or 5th option on this team without the injuries. Ellie scored well over 2000. Brooklyn scored well over 2000, i think Jenna Hopp might also be a 2000 pt scorer

the 8 girls who have been on the floor this year (now 7) are VERY TALENTED the difference is that this year we no longer have another 2 or 3 or 4 very talented girls waiting behind them on the bench

Nebraska just knocked off #2 Iowa

obviously i am not saying the Jacks would regularly beat Iowa but i more than like our chances right now against the Huskers. obviously the Huskers would not beat Iowa regularly either.

this game shows me two things. one probably nobody is touching South Carolina this year. two I am not counting the Jacks out against anyone else. ESPN currently has us at what i believe is the best possible seed to have the 12. they have us playing Notre Dame in Spokane with a potential second round vs Gonzaga. like i said i would never count us out, but if this team wins one ncaa game that is already icing on the cake of an excellent season hoping for two wins is very greedy. that said if we win the first one, i will definitely be imagining and rooting for a way for us to win one more

finally, is Iowa having a little bit of trouble with the record watch? i dont watch a LOT but they have not looked great lately from what i have seen
