  • GDT: Jackrabbits vs Leathernecks 6pm Western Hall goleathernecks.com

The Leathernecks may be having another down year. It seems they have a similar team that is not very big and they are trying to rely on the 3 point shot. Currently they are taking 43.5% of their shots from deep while only shooting 28.5%. The Jackrabbits are taking 32% of their shots from deep while shooting 28%. WIU is -7.4 on rebounds per game and SDSU is +9. WIU is finding 10.5 assists while Jackrabbits are reporting 15.6 assists. The last win for WIU against the Jackrabbits was in Macomb in Feb 2017. They began this conference season playing all 4 Dakotas. WIU is a preseason #7 choice. Jackrabbits should continue to see Paige and Dru refine their talents at point guard as the assists add up for the season. Go Jacks!!

Western’s gameplan is apparently nothing more than to come down and throw up 3 after 3. We are playing well but should be up by a lot more. Payton and Vlastuin leading us tonight.

Jacks seem to have an advantage inside but aren't getting as much out of it as they should.

Wonder what AJ was discussing with refs during last media TO before halftime

Dominant second half. Not sure though why we play Selland with 3 minutes left when we are up almost 30. Keep her healthy!

Peterson said it was regarding those two straight plays with Selland prior to the TO. He said something along the lines of it being the angriest he had seen AJ in a while.
Myah seeemed to think there was contact on both plays.

Thanks, I made the mistake of not listening to Jacks radio feed trying to "simulcast" MBB & WBB games.

I could hear him calling ref on far side court in background

in a while? i honestly think maybe EVER

he literally (TRULY literally) spent the entire timeout talking to all of the officials, he did not spend one second in the huddle. did not even spend a second looking at or moving toward the huddle. absolutely did NOTHING except talk to the refs

NOT HOWEVER in the dawn plitz style, of making mean faces and being demonstrative. he was still composed and NOT acting a fool, but he DEFINITELY had a point he wanted them to understand

sure means a lot more when a coach states his complaints on rare occasions, as opposed to every single trip up or down the floor

i have not watched EVERY game AJ has coached but i have watched the huge huge majority of them and i cannot think of a single other time in his career when he has spent an entire timeout speaking to the refs

Paiton had 10 or more points in the first quarter, all of them within1 foot of the hoop or from the FT line. i dont believe she hit the 3 until the second Q. clearly the plan was go to her and others inside and it worked immediately

clearly JD or the leatherneck ladies got tired of this and got a LOT more physical, which eventually led to the AJ / officials confrontation during the timeout

Maybe AJ is getting tired of seeing his players get beat up every time a team starts falling behind and can't keep up. Coaches can get like mother hens sometimes and become very protective, which is a good thing, because sometimes fouls should be called to keep teams from getting too rough and players becoming at risk to injury unnecessarily. After all, it's just a game, but injuries can plague players a lifetime. I don't think he'd ask for favoritism if he'd accept the same kind of calls for his team also. It's a fine line ref's have to walk keeping the game safe and at the same time not stifling the competitiveness of it because it starts getting more physical.

I think he has done an excellent job for a long time, of communicating with officials in order to protect his players, and to keep what is usually the MUCH squeakier wheel on the other bench from getting an unfair advantage

it is curious, WHAT exactly caused him to act so differently in last nights game?? i mean when dawn and the mugging crew were wrestling and tackling their way to victories for the last several years he never spent an entire time out pointing out the facts to the officials (at least not to my knowledge, against them or anyone else until last night)

All I saw was Timmer, bloody nose, went out, Tori hit her head on the floor hard after being brought down, one WIU player laid on the floor for a short time also. The point is, the game was undoubtedly rough and very few fouls were called to try to tamper down the the roughness of it, and it's only the 3rd game of the conference season, maybe? Both sides were claiming fouls should have been called, It's just my speculating , no more, no less.

I think Selland had a WIU player make contact prior to a shot (and shortly before the timeout) as well.

oh yeah I was definitely agreeing with you. we came out dominating them inside and they quickly became a LOT more physical. I was just surprised with the much different approach by AJ regarding making his point with the officials
