Early in the season to start this but ESPN this morning has the Jacks as a 5 seed. Lots of season left to play out but that is so close to a 4 seed which would be a host. That’d be an opportunity like none other. I feel like we’d have to win out (minus South Carolina) to even consider being a 4 seed though. Fun to think about but a lot would have to go well until March to see that happen.

Interesting fact about Marquette and the Jacks, Marquette finished the Tournament 2-1 with their only loss to UCLA and finished in second place.The Jacks finished the Tournament with an identical 2-1 record, their only loss to UCLA also and finished 5th. The only difference in placement in the order of finish is that we lost to UCLA in the first game and Marquette didn't have to play them until their third game and lost to them in the Championship game. I know that's the draw both teams got, and actually on paper according to rankings Marquette had the tougher first game opponent beating then 3rd ranked Texas and us having the easier non-ranked UCLA, but as we later found out, things in a tournament don't always follow the way things seem on paper (the rankings). Congrats to all teams who participated though, I think they all learned something from this tournament that will in all probability, will suit them well come March.

Definitely agree with you farmer. FIRST priority and hope is please let us go into the tournament healthy for the first time since 2019

after that, however, hosting the first two games would be way beyond cool

minus that, however, i think the six seed is better than the 5. i believe it is preferable to be in the half of the region opposite of the #1 seed.

also if they are correct about Creighton hosting, which currently looks VERY realistic, i would love to go to omaha and have another shot at them. if the jacks are not hosting, Omaha would be BY FAR the closest location the jacks have ever had for an NCAA tourney game, and i cannot imagine a better scenario for the jacks and for jacks fans

OBVIOUSLY that bracket is a HUGE guess and there are lots of games between here and there

it is awesome to think about the jacks hosting the first two rounds
i think a not so far second from that would be going to omaha for the first two rounds

would the committee put the jacks and jays in the same group of four??? who can say, supposedly there is a formula for deciding which 4 gets which 5, which 3 gets which 6, etc...


and yes 2011 i believe good chance you are correct about needing to win out minus USCaro, but if the jacks rebound like they did yesterday i think that is DEFINITELY possible, still some other tough OOC games to be played but i would say none tougher than UCLA and Louisville

and once we get to conference we will be the heavy favorite in EVERY game. that does not mean automatic victories but i think you gotta give AJ a lot of credit. over the years, his teams WIN the games they are supposed to win

We still have some tough teams left in our OOC schedule, win vs them will give us a little bump up, play USC Gamecocks tough (the heavy favorite to win it all) would give us a lot of credibility . The main thing would be to keep a high level of play all season long and not get complacent or take anyone lightly, no matter if we are rolling along and beating everyone prior, it's a long haul and easy to let one or two slip by, and yes, hopefully stay healthy and get healthier when Paige rejoins the team. If we don't win out and don't get the four seed, all is not lost for getting the five seed might be the next best thing as it gives us an easier path to a sweet 16 by playing a 12 seed our first game, then a #4 seed, the lowest hosting seed, (all remaining teams after the 1st round have to play against a 1-4 seeded team to advance further). "let the chips fall where they may" as 98Jackfarmer says, will be an interesting journey to see what actually comes to fruition, nobody controls destiny, but you can nudge it along in your favor.

disclaimer: I was writing my post before LetsGoRabbits posted his , afterwards read his and agree with his assessment too of what is a good seed, never even thought of the things he mentioned. Either a 5 or 6 would be great,but leaning #6 now because, as he said , stay away from having to play a # 1 seed for as long as you can. His way, playing # 11 ,3 & 2 seeds is better than maybe get a sweet 16 game by playing #12 , 4 & 1 , because we have done that and want to expand our vision a little bit now and go for an elite 8 and maybe more? Nothings easy in the NCAA Tournament, 68 is a lot of teams, but it whittles down fast to playing top 25 teams to top 16,8,4,2 teams to just 1.

ESPN has had us as a consistent 12 seed lately. I think we are far better than that but I’d rather play #4/#5 teams versus #1/#2 teams in the first few rounds. Ames or Boulder would be an easy trek for most fans. https://www.espn.com/espn/feature/st...ll-projections

First, we have to take care of business and win the SLT, we do that it will boost our seeding and give us momentum going forward. In the NCAA tournament you have to play well each game and see how far you get, it's kind of that simple. Some things are just fate, such as, do you get matched with a lower tier 4 seed , or a higher tier 4 seed, etc,etc,of each seed line . That depends on which regional grouping your put into. You can get favorable match-ups or unfavorable match-ups , you just don't know, all you know is if you play your best throughout the tournament, you can feel you did your best.

The NCAA has the bracket pretty well figured out that no one gets an easy path, except that the first 4 seeds get to host and have all their fans supporting them either at home or close to home for the first two rds, it's all neutral sites after that (supposedly). To me, the whole tournament should be played at neutral sights, NO special favors. That's just my opinion on that. But it is what it is.

Also, good to see us getting votes again in the top 25 polls. Level of play certainly has been deserving of that lately. That could help post-season seeding.

Personally I like a 12 seed. With the way the tournament is played you almost need to go clear to a 4 seed to improve your chances to get to the sweet 16. I stil believe it is more about matchups than seeding. Some teams we just wont match up well with.

I think we are pretty close, not quite there yet, at latest NET ranking for maybe an at-large consideration sitting on 48. As the four teams directly ahead of our Net are in the bracket (FGCU as AQ pick), according to Charlie, take that as you will. Of course, net is only one factor used by the Selection Committee for a team to get an at-large. Here's a link to that process. I don't think we should rely on an at large, or put hope into getting one, unless we can raise our net by 3-6 spots, the lower the better. But just win the SLT and all worries are gone.

Is there any consideration by the committee on health of the team? What would our record be if we had Paige and healthier Dru to start the season? Our two true freshman guards had to log some pretty significant minutes right out of the gate against some stiff competition. I feel just like last year's team, we are peaking at the right time. I find it hard to believe there is 47 teams in the country better than the Jacks, and I'm guessing no 4/5 seed wants to see us in the first round.
