  • GDT: Bahamas Round 3 - Louisville #6 - 5th Place Game

Jackrabbits take on the currently ranked #6 Louisville Cardinals of the ACC today at 4 pm. Louisville lost in OT to Gonzaga round 1, then handled Texas 71-63 to reach the consolation championship game.

Cardinals are lead by Hailey Van Lith, averaging 36 minutes/game, 20.2 ppg. Morgan Jones and Chrislyn Carr averaging 11 and 10.2 ppg as well. Those three have accounted for 90 of their 138 points this tournament.

    - 1st place game featuring UCLA and Marquette is already underway. UCLA routed #11 Tennessee quite easily on their way to face unranked Marquette in the championship game that started today at 11 am CST. Marquette held off Gonzaga in a tightly contested battle throughout. Marquette currently up 21-18 halfway through the 2nd quarter.

    - 3rd place game featuring Tennessee and unranked Gonzaga at 1:30 pm central.

    - 7th place game is unranked Rutgers vs #3 Texas, losers of three straight. Going to be a lot of shakeup in the rankings after this tournament.

Tough game ahead, but victory is certainly attainable. Go Jacks!

Edit --- new rankings effective today, 11/21, taking into account games through round 2, 11/20/22 --- UCLA now #20. Louisville falls to #10, Texas falls to #19. Tennessee falls to #23. Marquette/Gonzaga/SDSU all receiving votes in that order.

An absolute neck and neck 2nd half is sent into overtime, where UCLA outscores Marquette 13-5, ending the game with a 66-58 victory. UCLA now 6-0 on the season.

Watching Louisville, they are very active and disruptive on defense, active hands all the time. This is NCAA Tournament style play and so glad we get a little bit accustomed to this physical harassing style of play , we have it too easy in our Conference and no where near the size and quickness at every position. We will have to limit turnovers, but some are bound to happen if the refs " let um play " so to speak. We have to match their quickness most of the time and get off ball help when needed. Should be a good game and an added plus for us that Louisville ended up in our side of the bracket. Really good experience to have these games.Rebounding helps obviously, so hope we do well there also. Congrats to UCLA.

Morgan Jones is a 6'2 " guard, really runs the floor fast, only thing is she takes some charging fouls when she tries to finish on the fast break and it isn't there and she runs into defenders, knocking them down.

Rebounding and defense looking much better already today. Now we just need our perimeter shots to start falling.

Jacks were up 8-4 at one point, prior to a 13-2 Cardinals run. 17-14 Louisville, midway through the 2nd quarter. 10 SDSU turnovers, 1-11 from 3 pt land. We have secured 9 offensive rebounds, and winning the total boards battle 22-12. Take care of the ball, Jacks! Shots should start falling soon.

Lots if I improvements today but offense struggling. 1-12 from three. A few of those fall and we’d be up double digits right now.

Wow great run to end the half. All the momentum with the Jacks. 26-19 at the half. Rebounds and defense winning it for us today. Let’s end this tourney with a top 10 win!

Lousville creeping back in with questionable calls and FT’s.

Sounds like the Cardinals are getting some home cooking from the officials.
