  • WNIT GDT: Gophers vs Jackrabbits 2pm Frost Arena Midco

The Gophers are on the road again for their 2nd game of the tournament. They bring an experienced roster. They started with 15 players and now they have 11 on the roster. One of the missing was a double digit scorer and 5.7 APG starter. There have been 9 different players in the starting lineup. Scalia is the leading scorer at 18.3 PPG and adds 4.4 RPG. There are 2 other double digit scorers as well. The Gophers have used 3 off the bench the last few games running 39-43 minutes of relief. Scalia has a few 30+ point games to pace the team. There are 5 transfers on the team. There are 4 grad, 1 senior, 1 r-junior, 1 jr(Scalia), 2 sophomores, & 2 freshmen. 6'5" grad post player comes off the bench. There are several other 6'0" to 6'3" on the roster that play. This should be a competitive game in Frost which should give the Jackrabbits the edge. The defense can hold the Gophers under 70 to advance. Go Jacks!!
Best to remember these are kids and they are doing everything they can to entertain us, be scholars, and all in all be great humans. Jackedforlife

Interested to see how this plays out. Gophers defeated Jacks' last opponent by 6pts on 12/15 in Minneapolis. Think the Jacks win by at least 11.

Whalen has had an interesting time as Gophers coach. Had a starter quit the team mid-season, which is the second season in a row that has happened. Probably will be cut more slack due to being a former Gopher and WNBA great, but having no prior coaching experience shows up at times. Has a very highly recruiting class coming in with some Minnesota born players, which has often not been the case in the past.

Coach needs to stop putting the ball into LT or HG hands at the end of quarters. That was great with Meyer, but is a wasted possession now. If we lose this game we will again be able to looked at missed layups as a major reason.

Intense game. We had our chance to pull away but the Gophers got some big stops before halftime. They’re better than their record. With their recruiting class next year they’ll be much better. This is a good game for us regardless of what happens.

Timmer is so mentally strong. Had a tough end to the first half but comes out and carries us in the second. I’m excited for three more years of her.

I understand why they won’t play us during the regular season.

It’s nice to get to hammer the Gophers every few years to remind all those promising MN recruits which program is better.

This brief post season seems to already have been great for Timmer. She’s going to play herself onto some 2022/23 preseason All Conference Team ballots.

Meyer, Timmer, Selland, Nelson, Burkhardt. That’s a solid starting 5 for next year.

Someone probably gonna have to step in for Meyer till conference. And as we've seen, those non conference games are everything. So while I like your optimism, that first piece is extremely important unless some superstar recruit can step in immediately and be that person.

Yep, we might not see Meyer next year.

remember even without Paige, we will begin next year with basically the same roster that beat iowa state, gonzaga, UNI, and usd 2x last year

the difference would be loss of tylee and others who would be pretty easily replaced. the addition of timmer and hopefully at least one of the incoming MN guards will be able to shoot it!! and score it!! and contribute!! and B Meyer from iowa who people obviously have high high hopes for

we should NOT assume that tylee defense and all around game is unimportant or easily replaced!!! but timmer is probably a better offensive player already and some of the incoming freshman might be too

i have every confidence this team will do very well OOC next year and they will be the very obvious favorite to perhaps not only win but dominate the conference, which will probably be fun but possibly not be totally helpful.

the huge difference and the key is the healthy myah selland and hopefully even better shooters and scorers surrounding her

Paige is and will be outstanding!! but Myah if probably an all time top 5 player and yet somehow underrated because of all the injuries. she is still the key

Jacks absolutely bottled up Scalia, who was 2nd team all B1G and has almost unlimited range. She shot 3-14, and at least two of those buckets came early in the game. And Timmer abused her taking it to the basket for 2 or 3 and-ones. Timmer has no fear driving it even against their bigs.
