  • 2021 NCAA Tourney Talk

The Jacks still look to be a solid at large team in the NCAA tourney even with the clunker against Omaha. The goal all year is to get a decent seed in the NCAA tourney and advance once there. The Jacks have done the first part.

One bad loss doesn't erase the dominant season they had, their team sheet is light years ahead of USeD's when it comes to quality wins. The injuries derailed things, but the momentum for the program is still there.

ESPN's Charlie Creme updated his projected brackets earlier today, He has the Jacks with an at-large bid as a 9 seed, playing #8 Marquette. USD with the auto-bid is a 10 seed playing # 7 Iowa.

Be better to get a 11 (even 12) than an 8, 9, or 10 so you are not fed to the #1 or 2 seed in round 2

I would imagine the odds of a 10 beating a 2 are not much better than a 9 beating a 1. Not great in either case.

In women's basketball, there has been historically quite a divide between the top 4 from the rest. Avoiding the top 8 teams with something higher than a 10 seed could be quite helpful for the Jack's this year

of course if you are seeded anywhere between 9-16 and you have a dream of making the sweet 16, then a 12 or 13 seed is the best setup. you would play some combo of the 4 and 5 seeds. you could not play 2 lower seeded teams from any other spot, unless of course there is another upset in your part of the bracket.

that being said, any real hope of the sweet 16 ended when myah got hurt. the girls showed great determination and courage and won 4 games after her injury but any really special post season hopes ended. i love this team and i am very proud of them. i hope that when they look back that they will remember mostly the positive things they acheived, like being the first jacks team to go undefeated in conference play and knocking off 3 teams rated in the top 25. i hope they will focus on that and not the woulda, shoulda, couldas of what happens minus the injuries. you can ONLY control what you can control. and within that framework they had an unbelieveable season!!!!

i will be rooting as hard as ever and i hope they make me look foolish for writing this)))!!!! i ABSOLUTELY believe they could still win their first round game but even that will take some good bounces and probably about as good a performance as the current squad can put together. beyond that any wins would require multiple lightening strikes in their favor

I think your analysis is right on. Winning one game would be a great achievement for this team. And a 8-9 game probably gives the best chance for that to happen.

Beat me to it! In other words, the winner gets fed to the wolves. Uffda

Meanwhile, Yotes are an 11 seed vs. Oregon, winner gets Georgia (3)/Drexel (14).

About where I figured we would end up. Thought USD would be a 9/10 seed but Oregon’s starting PG is out and they have struggled lately. Uconn of course as the second game potentially isn’t ideal but interesting news today that Geno may be out for that game with a positive COVID test.

Also, it was special to hear ESPN say it is our TENTH NCAA tournament. That’s incredible. Much to celebrate.

Nice! I didn’t realize it was the 10th. Just shooting from the hip I would think the first round game comes down to who just wants it more.

Hopefully the extra two weeks gives Nelson a better shot at contributing some good minutes.
