  • The Women of UND

I have to believe Coach A.J. is going to try and pound the ball inside the paint to get their better players (Leighton, etc.) in foul trouble. That's why NDSU caught them in the second half on Sunday night. If our women limit turnovers we should be in good shape. DeBoer and Schlagel need to have a good game.

A trip to St. Joe this time of year would be a very good thing.

The state mental hospital is in St. Joe. They have a very fine museum. I'm looking forward to the trip.

When we take care of the ball and play tough defense on everybody else, it won't matter what Leighton does. I wasn't at the game Saturday, but it sounds like Brooke Dickmeyer was getting inside too. When she gets her confidence up and takes it inside, the Jacks are helped a lot. I've made my reservations for St. Joe and look forward to a trip back there again this year. Thanks, Jackrabbit Women for a great season...I hope it keeps going

        Re: The Women of UND

We can beat UND and if we do if well help me recover from the funk I'm in following last nights fiasco.  I haven't had a good start to my week since the men beat Mankato on Feb 22nd.

I think the key will be our 3-point shooting.  We need to hit those outside shots to help open up the middle for entry passes as well as rebounding.  Scizek, Davis, Vogel and Sieler (is she healthy?) need to continue to penetrate and pass.  Jacks need to stay in the game early or we could have another blow-out on our hands and I'm not sure I could handle that again.

I don't think UND or their fans have much respect for the Jacks.   I think they feel that the game with NDSU was the championship.  I am confident that we can prove them wrong.  LETS GO RABBITS.

          Re: The Women of UND

I agree I'm glad this game is today to help me get over the hangover of last nights shellacking. While womens basketball sometimes is painful to watch I have really come around to appreciating it's just a different style. I will be there tonight rooting on our squad. I too think UND has no respect for the Jacks and feel that in their minds the toughest part of advancing to the Elite 8 was getting past rival NDSU. I hope the ladies step up and play aggresive but smart like they did against Concordia.
I have been critical against Sieler in the past but felt she played her usual good perimiter defense and played smart with the ball on the break and throwing it into the post. Good luck to the Women tonight!

I know this region has a great reputation but, I really like our chances. I think "when" not "if" we beat UND. I sure like the chance of a repeat. Realize it's earlt still but the way they played against Concordia! I like our chances!!!

            GO JACKS!!

              Re: The Women of UND

UND is literally and figuratively in another league as compared to Concordia. Fortunately, so are we. I do not see us dominating UND like we did Concordia. If there is going to be a blowout I'm afraid we'd be on the out end.

I am prepared for a close game with an exciting finish. F.T. shooting will be key as well as the 3-point shot. I'm with you jack02, I like our chances. We expected to see UND or NDSU here and I think they might have been hoping that the Jacks would get upset. Remember, we hold the coveted prize, both the Regional and National title. They only way we give it up it if someone takes it from us. GO JACKS!!!

                Re: The Women of UND

UND is an excellent team. The keys to their success are Leighton and Mahlum. Both ladies are very quick and are able to score lots of points. Sieler is healthy and will dog Mahlum on the in pass and all the way down the court. Some people were saying she shouldn't be playing ... to that I say horse crap. She does a great job of wearing people down. Leighton is another animal. I hope AJ has some medicine in his bag for that deal.

One more thing. Schlagel needs to bring her A game. If she gets caught down low and throws up goofy shots it could be a tough night. Another thing she can't do is try to dribble between defenders. She does that at times and ends up with a turnover. :Let's hope she starts out like she did against CSP.

It's going to be a tough game. I'm glad our ladies have played in lots of big games before. This is where experience helps.

                GO JACKRABBITS!

Jackguy do you know why I like womens basketball more than mens?

                  A) Fewer tattoos
                  B) Fewer egos
                  C) More passing

                    Re: The Women of UND

Well, I plan to get my a$$ home and tune into the 910 Depot internet broadcast to catch the women's regional final. My experiences with WNAX over the past few days have been less than ideal -- I never did link up with the Northern game on Saturday.

My luck with the Depot has been much better. I just wonder if, since the men are done, if the Depot feed will get more and more traffic as the women advance towards their repeat national title.

You'll get no arguments here when on some levels, i.e. the Olympics. I have a lot more fun watching the Team USA women who play hardnosed defense, motion offense with lots of movement away from the ball, and great passing. Compare the overpaid NBA prima donnas on Team USA men who stand around and pout if they don't get to touch the ball enough.

Sounds like a pretty good Jacks crowd there tonight. There was a nice roar after Schlagel hit a three.
