  • SD State vs Purdue

We should be able to compete in this game. I hope some fans show-up. Great to see our women playing the schedule they have.

If you weren't aware, NDSU plays only 4 DI games this year. 2 against us (losses) and 1 each against Cincinnati and TCU.

I'll be tuning in to depot radio 910 on Tuesday to listen to the Jacks women in West Lafayette.

We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are.

My first two years as a prof were at Purdue. Mackey Arena is a great atmosphere. It's the smallest "big" arena I know of, with the crowd right on top of the court (literally, since the benches are little dugouts on the sidelines).

Anyone who is going should stop at Khana Kazana, the second-best Indian restaurant I have found in the U.S. (first is Taj Mahal in Kansas City... my friend Mohan from India agrees that is the best Indian restaurant he has found in the U.S., and that Khana Kazana is second.) Khana Kazana is just down the street from Mackey, in the village.

Should be the lady Jacks toughest test to date.  Recently ranked as high as #20 in the nation.  She give us an idea of where our women sit on a NATIONAL level.  SHould also have a few more butts in the stands as they seem to draw around 7,000/game.  Probably won't be that many for this one over the break and we're not a nationally known team (yet )

        Highlight from an Argus story:

SDSU women to play No. 20 Purdue today
        Chris Solari
        Argus Leader

        published: 12/28/2004

After a perfect three-game homestand, the South Dakota State women embark on another lengthy, difficult Division I road trip starting today.

The Jackrabbits travel to West Lafayette, Ind., where they face 20th-ranked Purdue at 6 p.m. It is the first of a month-long stretch of six games in five states against easily recognized major college opponents. . . .

SDSU (9-3), which beat three lesser-division opponents last week, will take on Oklahoma State on Thursday in Stillwater, Okla. In early January, the Jacks face Middle Tennessee State, Alabama, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Wisconsin-Green Bay.

But first up are the 6-3 Boilermakers, who are coming off a 66-48 loss to No. 3 Duke on Dec. 18. Perennially ranked, Purdue has a young roster this season with just two seniors and four juniors.

"They're a team that's been to Final Fours and been extremely storied in women's basketball. It has good players and great tradition," Johnston said. "These players just do a little bit of everything. Earlier in the year, some of the teams we ran into had this kind of athleticism, but Purdue has the athleticism and the ability."

A pair of sophomores has done the bulk of the damage for Purdue. Erin Lawless, a 6-foot-2 forward, leads the Boilermakers with a 15.9 points-per-game average and is making 55 percent of her shots. Versatile Katie Gearlds, a 6-1 guard-forward who was last season's Big Ten Freshman of the Year, is second on the team at 11.9 points and should test the Jackrabbits with her height and outside shooting ability.

"(The Jackrabbits) are very good," Boilermakers coach Kristy Curry said. "This will be good for us as we head into our Big Ten season."

Curry said she is impressed with SDSU's physical play and cohesion. . . .

Senior forward Shannon Schlagel leads SDSU with 15.3 points and 6.2 boards a game, while sophomore guard Megan Vogel averages 13.9 points and 5.4 rebounds.

"They're a brutal team to prepare for," Curry gushed. "They're just so fundamentally sound. They play every play so hard at both ends of the floor. They're really just a joy to watch as a coach."

Go Jackrabbits, beat the Boilermakers! ;D
