That was an error by the sign painting company! They hired a USD alum named Steve Johnson to do the work. He just moved back to SD from Hawaii. Here is some of his work:

He messed up the spacing of the letters. The sign was supposed to read:

USD, South Dakota's DII Team!

They decided they didn't want to spend the money to fix it, with all the law suits they have going on, so they left it.

Alabama, Kentucky, Oklahoma State, Texas State, Northrn Illinois, Oregon State, USC, Middle Tennessee and Rutgers all know who is South Dakota's DI Team!

Just ask them!

That's exactly what he meant. He was not being disrespectful to SDSU. Based it on the recent history of the NCC and fact Jacks lost a couple of good players from last year's squad. See related post on Alabama thread.

I actually think that would be pretty witty of Ohio to adopt that slogan. It's not like it would be false advertising. You could say a picture of their team would be a picture of "Ohio's Team." Somebody should tell them about this.

I haven't seen the billboard you are speaking of. Is it a picture of one of the athletic teams or something. They are the University of South Dakota so maybe thats what they mean when they say South Dakota's team. It would be like a picture of the University of Duke saying Duke's Team.  I don't take it to mean that they are the only school in South Dakota.

I think our football rivalry with NDSU can be more intense, if it's not already. I do think it will be a while before our basketball rivalry is as intense.  Maybe I'll be wrong about that.

There are two of these signs between Sioux Falls and Brookings and you get a view of said sign whether going north or south. I dont agree with Lavin's comments about the NCC and D1 competition. Seems like most of the NCC teams have lost exhibition games to D1 opponents more often than winning. If USD were to pull a upset, I suppose that would not be blaz' but rather headline news.

I don't know if it would be headline news. Last year the Lady Yotes beat D-I San Diego and hardly anyone heard about it, I don't know if the Argus even had it. I don't think there is a media bias out there against us. I think most of the media is from SDSU.
