Tough Loss tonight, Congrats to Shannon on becoming the all time leading scorer in SDSU history! We'll get another shot at the Bison in Fargo in a few weeks.
Hats off to NDSU- they came in and took care of business.
NDSU played the kind of game I expected SDSU to play. Hats off to the Bison women. I had little doubt that they would have the same success against DI teams as we have. Maybe it will be a repeat of last year with each team winning on the road. Thanks to all who made it out to the game. I wish I could have been there.

BROOKINGS, SD - North Dakota State’s rebounding and free throw shooting were too much for South Dakota State as the Bison remained undefeated with a 78-68 victory over the Jackrabbits in women’s basketball Saturday night.
The Bison were led by reserve Brandee Gibbs, a 6-4 junior from Hanover, MN, who finished with 20 points and nine rebounds. NDSU had a 47-31 rebounding advantage in the game.
NDSU made its first 15 free throw attempts of the game and was 21-of-23 at one point before finishing the game 28-of-35 at the line. By the time the Bison started missing foul shots, the issue had been decided.
The 18-0 Bison won the first four minutes of each half by a combined 22-9 margin. They started the first half with a 12-6 lead, built it to 22-11, then SDSU rallied to tie it at 24 before the Bison took a 34-31 halftime lead.
Then NDSU built a 44-33 margin early in the second half before the Jacks closed within four at 51-47. Then Leah Klabo scored on layup and Amanda Krenz hit a three-pointer to push the margin back to nine. From there, the Bison opened a 64-51 lead with Gibbs hit a pair of free throws with 6:05 to play.
NDSU had just one other player in double figures, Katie Lorenz with 14. NDSU had an almost even split between its starters and reserves. The starters scored 40 points; the bench scored 38, a factor which helped overcome foul problems which saw four Bison - three of them starters - foul out.
Sophomore Megan Vogel led the Jacks with a career high 26 points to go with 13 rebounds. Shannon Schlagel scored 18 points and in the process became the career scoring leader at SDSU, now with 1,750 points. She passed Melissa Pater, who had 1,747 during the 2000 to 2003 seasons.
SDSU played without starting guard Brooke Dickmeyer, who suffered a broken big toe at Wisconsin-Green Bay earlier in the week.
SDSU will return to action Sunday afternoon, hosting Briar Cliff in a 4 p.m. game.

Wasn't able to listen, but by the looks of the boxscore we lost this game on the boards. NDSU held a 16 rebound advantage!! Every other category is essentially a push. NDSU committed more fouls and turned the ball over more.
After hearing about how physical this SDSU team is I am wondering what happened on the boards tonight. Any insight?

NDSU is a very good ball club. Nice free-throw shooting; very physical. Rebounding clearly made a difference.
SDSU's girls weren't on their game. They did some things very nicely at times but not all the time and NDSU is not going to let you get away with any lapses.
Were the Jacks a tiny bit "worn" from the last couple of tough games on the road? Brooke Dickmeyer's absence was a factor.
These are two very good ballclubs. The next meeting could likely have the opposite result. Tonight it was the Bison's night and they are to be congratulated.
I don't know where to start???? Who cares who we beat!!!!! Why, Why are, WE losing to teams that.....are less talented than us?????........Let the excuses begain.
SDSU/BHS-fan ... NDSU is not less talented than us. I don't know where you came to that conclusion. They are a big, physical team. Plus, they know how to make free throws. Their undefeated record is testimony of how good they are. Yes, they have played some very good teams along the way.
There are no excuses. Why should any be given? One team won, one team lost. That's sports. Life goes on.
All I have to say is "WOW"-----we are new---but we have peope people bragging----why----
Based on this and his previous post (crying about 4500 at a women's BB game and calling NDSU less talented), I must surmize that BHS can't handle his liqour. He'll regret what hes when he sobers up.
How do you misinterpert support for a team that has been the best in the region as bragging? Oh yeah, its called EtOH. All that said, I have no problem with hitting the sauce and spouting off, no apology necessary. The regret when the reality of sobriety comes calling will be enough punishment.

Being snow bounded in North Dakota, I did not get to the game as I had planned. In fact the team bus did not leave Fargo until about noon on Saturday as I-29 was closed from the SD boarder to the Candadian boarder. Just enough snow of 4 inches and 40 mph winds to make it a mess.
I got the pleasure of listening to the game on WDAY. The voice of the Bison, Jack Michaels, though freely filled with homer emotions at times, he was very complimentry to SDSU the team, coach and fans. Jack even had Scotty Kwas from KJJQ on at half time to talk about coverage of all the D1 games.
Also WDAY had an interview before the game with AJ Johnston. AJ mentioned in that in studying the videos of the Bison, he felt this years team was playing more as a unit. The talent he said had been there previous years but sometimes they did not seem to work together.
Also after the game many of the Bison ladies were on the post game show. They had said good things too, about the Jacks and this was a big game for them. They talked about how hard they had practiced during the week on pressure defense and other things that made a difference. As JackJD mentioned the Bison did play solid and these things made a difference.
I do wonder if Brook D@ickmeyer would have made a difference with her threes. I do think the Jacks missed too many free throws at times when making them would have helped shift the momentum of the game.
My congradulations to the Bison. They worked hard for this win and got it. There was also comments about Frost being a big and noisey place to play so I think our 4739 people in attendence made a difference. I would love to have made the count 4740, but maybe next time. I think SDSU should show those in Fargo that we have a good following and make the trip up north. I would hope the weather towards the end of February will be much better.
Great game and hats off to a great crowd and excellent competition. Im thinking this game is a great prelude to the rematch in Fargo where a sell out is likely! I believe its an old fashioned double header.
I'll admit I had doubts about the SDSU women beating the Bison last night. Here's what I took out of the game.
1) Shannon Schlagel missed her usual three to four 5-foot shots by the basket (maybe five or six last night,) but I think the record was a fraction on her mind no matter what anybody says. AJ says "she hurried some of those shots tonight." Quite frankly, since her freshman year, she always looks like she "hurries" a few shots- some go in and some go too hard off the backboard. Still, it's hard to find someone who can consistently use those hook shots (left hand or right hand) She puts more in left handed from that range, even though she's right handed. kudos to her!!!!
2) Foul trouble by Schlagel in the first half, and we still were within 3 by the halftime buzzer.
3) The Bison did not have Lacey Johnson in their meeting last year either, and though she did not score much, she kept Schlagel out of rhythm in the 1st half, other than the two threes.
4) Even when the Bison took some off-balance shots, they got their own misses, whether we were out of position or not, they're hustle to the boards made a big difference.
5) Whether or not Brooke Dickmeyer's presence hurt their outside shooting is hard to say, but I'd like to say it would have helped the Jacks' chances.
6) I think the Jacks will play looser up north and will have a better outcome.
7) I'd like to know what the Bison's record would have been had they played a comparable schedule to the Jacks. I KNOW that this will be a cherished rivalry for years to come, conference or no conference.
