What an SDSU legend Megan is. She has moved into 3rd place on the all-time scoring list for SDSU women's basketball, just 191 points shy of Shannon Schlagel. It took Schlagel 133 games to score 1887 point. Melissa Pater scored 1747 points in 126 games while Brenda Davis had 1688 in 128 games. Megan currently has 1696 in 111 games. With 6 games remaining, Megan would have to average 31.83 ppg to eclipse Schlagel. Let's assume we play 2 games in the WNIT, then for 8 games, Megan would need to average 23.87 ppg. Not probable, but anything is possible. Regardless of where Megan ends up, she should and will IMHO be regarded as one of the best to ever play at Frost Arena.

Re: Megan Vogel
No doubt Vogel is one of the best to ever suit up for the Jacks regardless of where she finishes on the all time scoring list.
Curiosity getting the best of me wondering how many of Schlagel, Pater and Davis' points were scored in the post season as compared to regular season only. I would think that all three scored significant points in the post season, and all played in a number of post season games whereas Vogel will play in only a few this year. Not that any of that matters, just more of a "how do they really compare" wondering.
Way to go Megan!!I updated my signature for the first time in six years.

Re: Megan Vogel
What more could this fine young lady possibly do for a program?
What all has she done? Check it out!
1. 3.8 grade average and academic All-America.
2. #3 in scoring all time and climbing without the benefit of post-season games and playing against a higher level of competition.
3. I believe she is the chairperson for the Student Athlete Council (name of group?)
4. Team leader on and off the court!
5 ONE OF THE NICEST KIDS YOU WILL EVER MEET!
There are tons of things that I'm leaving out but the bottom line is that she is one of the best student-athletes to EVER wear the yellow and blue in any sport, period!
If you are one of the Jacks fans that only goes to one sport and doesn't make it to the women's games, you need to make an effort to see this athlete play the game, she is outstanding! Well, you need to see the whole team because they are a special group but I digress!. Hopefully, we will get a chance to host a WNIT game which would be the crowning achievement for Megan and this entire team.
The women's basketball team has had quite a run of outstanding players which is a credit to the coaching staff! Pater, Schlagel, Seiler, Vogel to name just a few!
Megan, thanks for everything and I look forward to a spectacular ending to a spectacular career!
SUPERBUNNYMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, BIZUN!!!

Re: Megan Vogel
Hopefully, Vogel will be a feature story in the Sunday Argus (subject to newspaper stuff, of course).
I believe that she is the best women's player to play for SDSU during A.J.'s tenure here. No disrepect meant to Pater, Davis, or Schlagel (who all rightfully can be called SDSU legends), but Vogel has had to carry this team for two full seasons without a true second threat (no one else this year or last has averaged double-digits in scoring) while playing a higher level ofc ompetition. In addition, her career scoring average of 15.28 ppg is at least one ppg higher than Pater, Davis, or Schlagel.
Her commitment to SDSU is the one of the major reasons that SDSU has succeeded during its transition to D-I. If SDSU ever starts to "retire" jerseys, #32 should be one of the first on the list.

I know this has been posted in other locations here, but I think this is an appropriate spot to revive the link to the Megan Vogel interview from www.gojacks.com

Passion Player
Jacks' dominating presence ranks third in career scoring

Broken down, there are two parts to the fist pump, Megan Vogel's signature expression.
Look at her arms, the mass, the definition, the strength. The 5-foot-11 South Dakota State wing didn't always look like this. She gained 15 pounds of muscle her freshman year, dropping a pants size in the process, and, frankly, scaring herself. Where did that scrawny little girl go?
Next comes the passion. In high school, she was petrified the first time her coach announced - right in the middle of a huddle - that the team was going to put its fate in her 14-year-old hands. St. Peter (Minn.) lost that night. But Vogel worked feverishly, preparing herself for future opportunities.
Years later, she saw the way SDSU teammate Shannon Schlagel played, and told herself that she would carry that fiery torch one day.
And that is how the fist pump came to be. Vogel doesn't remember the first time she did it and claims that sometimes she's not even aware she's done it. But, for all that she's accomplished, that singular action summarizes her journey.
It is what she has become: Strong, passionate, and, in her opinion, unequivocally better than she would have been had the school not jumped to the NCAA Division I level.

Re: Megan Vogel
what a great article for a much deserved individual, but if you listened to the post game interview all Vogs wanted to talk about was the team. Her career scoring performance was OK, but she talked more about the team and how they are preparing for each game than she did herself. she concidered herself honored to be mentioned with career scoring leaders, Schlagle, Pater & Davis and thanked them for starting the tradition of success now enjoyed by the SDSU women's program. Megan's comments are no surprise, what else would such a class act have to say?

For those who don't think the move to DI results in an increased level of talent and commitment and the expected outcome related to those things, listen to a very bright woman. Get over your hang-ups and get on board. Several media types just can't seem to understand things the way Ms. Vogel can. I think I know why that is but I won't go there. We are here to add what we can to life, not get what we can from life. -Sir William Osler
We do not see things as they are, we see things as we are.

Re: Megan Vogel
I think the youngsters on the men's team should sit down and have a real long talk (ok, maybe just a real long listen) to what Vogel is saying.
D-I players aren't born, they're made. And the only person who can really make them is the person they're looking at in the mirror."I think we'll be OK"

Re: Megan Vogel
Well Blue has been doing a little calculating and here it is Vogel is 133 points out off number one.
To become the number one scorer here is what she needs to do
4 games left in the season: she would need to average 33.25points a game.
4+1 WNIT game: she would need to average 26.6 points a game.
4+2 WNIT games: she would need to average 22.16666666666666666 points a game.
4+3 WNIT games: she would need to average 19 points a game.
4+4 WNIT games: she would need to average 16.625 points a game.
4+5 WNIT games: she would need to average 14.77777777777 points a game.
4+6 WNIT games: she would need to average 13.3 points a game.Any way you look at it Megan is the definition of a champion on and off the court for our team. It would be great for her to go out with a big bang. I had a chance to talk a little bit with her parents tonight, they are nice people. I look forward to watching Megan close out her career with us.
Modified to show errors in Blue's schedule reading and ignoring the Utah Valley State game.
