Sieler earns weekly independent award
South Dakota State guard Heather Sieler has been named Division I Independent Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Jackrabbits to a pair of home victories last week.
A senior from Huron, Sieler averaged 17.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, three assists and two steals per game. She also shot 68.8 percent (11-of-16) from three-point range. In a Feb. 1 game against Southwest Minnesota State, Sieler scored a game-high 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point range. Against North Dakota State on Feb. 4, she tallied a career-high 20 points, making 6-of-9 shots from long range, to go along with four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
In the Division I Independent statistics, Sieler is No. 3 in three-point shooting (.398, 41-103), No. 5 in assists (3.23 apg) and No. 4 in steals (1.82 spg).
Sieler is the second Jackrabbit player to earn the award this season, joining Megan Vogel, who received the award Dec. 20.
SDSU, 14-8 overall, travels to Texas this weekend for games at Texas-Pan American on Saturday and at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday.
