Reading Star Trib today, article about UND and their dominance in the NCC. Helps that the 2 best women's programs left in the last 2 years. They didn't mention that.

Jacks pull away from NDSU, win seventh straight

FARGO, N.D. -- Reserve Stacie Oistad keyed a late first-half run and the South Dakota State University women's basketball team carried the momentum through the second half to defeat North Dakota State 77-55 Saturday night at the Bison Sports Arena.

The Jackrabbits improved to 17-8 overall, posting their seventh consecutive victory. NDSU dropped to 8-15 overall.

SDSU got off to a sluggish start, trailing by as many as eight points at 27-19 with just under six minutes remaining in the front half. Then Oistad, a freshman from Sartell, Minn., heated up from the perimeter, hitting three consecutive three-point attempts in a one minute, 40 second span. Her final three-pointer with 1:06 left in the half gave SDSU its first lead at 36-33.

The Jackrabbits led 38-35 at halftime and opened the second half with a 15-2 blitz to go up 16 at 53-37. SDSU shot 56 percent in the second half, 15-of-27, and out-rebounded the Bison 23-8 in the second half to hold a 35-26 rebounding advantage for the game.

Megan Vogel led a balanced Jackrabbit offensive attack with 20 points. Oistad finished with a career-high 13 points and reserve forward Jennifer Warkenthien added 11. Christina Gilbert contributed 10 points.

Vogel and Warkenthien each tallied a team-high six rebounds, with Vogel tallying a game-high five assists as the Jackrabbit transition game hit high gear in the second half. As a team, SDSU tied its season best with 22 assists.

NDSU was led by Brandi Gibbs with 14 points, with Danni Heintzelman adding 11. Both players shared game-high honors with seven rebounds.

The Jackrabbits finished the game 26-of-54 from the field, 48.1 percent, including 7-of-19 from three-point range. At the line, SDSU converted a season-best 18-of-20 for 90 percent.

Re: Women's Basketball: SDSU at North Dakota State

I got back from Fargo a while ago and had to read the board before I got around to posting anything.

The Bison started out pretty good and the Jacks started out cold.  Bison were able to go inside to their tall girls and score.  The also outrebounded us in the beginning.
With about 7 min left in the game the Jacks had a 2 rebound lead.  Toward the end of the first half Oistad hit 2 straight 3's, then one of the guards went coast to coast for a lay-up, followed by another Oistad 3 pointer.
Previous to that the Jacks had just been hanging around staying within 7 points or so.  Jacks up 3 at the half.

Bison didn't have much success to start the 2nd half.  Jacks came out strong on defense.  1st 6 Bison trips down the floor were-

                          Shot clock violation
                          Shot clock violation
                          Airball
                          Turnover
                          Miss
                          Miss

They had little success going inside in the second half.  I'm not an X and O guy so I don't know if they just stopped trying or couldn't make it work any more against the SDSU defense.  The Jacks quickly pulled away and led  by 20 for a good portion of the second half.

Nice win by the Jacks.  They stayed close while the shots weren't falling and dominated the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half and coasted the rest of the way.

                          GO JACKS ;D ;D ;D

Some of you guys like musical references so how's this?
Late in the second half Stacie Oistad came on like John Lee Hooker - BOOM BOOM BOOM  ;D.  Three 3's in a minute and a half.

Sorry, couldn't pass it up once I came up with it.  :

OK, one more but that's all.

Like the late, great John Lee Hooker serving up One Bourbon, One Scotch, and One Beer, Stacie Oistad staggered the Bison with three 3 pointers in the span of about a minute and a half which left them hung over for the remainder of the game.

I really gotta go find something constuctive to do.

                          Go Jacks ;D ;D ;D

An ardent supporter of the hometown team should go to a game prepared to take offense, no matter what happens.Robert Benchley

FARGO, N.D.--Megan Vogel dropped in a game-high 20 points as South Dakota State University tightened the defense in a 77-55 win over North Dakota State in a Division I Independent women's basketball game played Saturday, Feb. 18, before a crowd of 3,036 at the Bison Sports Arena.

The Bison have lost six in a row, it's longest streak since 1977-78. The Jackrabbits have won seven games in a row.

North Dakota State (8-15) is scheduled to play at Utah Valley State (10-13) at 8:05 p.m. (CST) Friday, Feb.24, at the McKay Center in Orem, Utah. South Dakota State (17-8) is scheduled to play at IPFW (3-20) at 7 p.m. Feb. 24.

Stacie Oistad scored nine of her career-high 13 points on three 3-pointers in the final three minutes of the first half. Oistad's outside touch sparked a 13-4 run to help put South Dakota State 38-35 at halftime.

The Jackrabbits continued on a roll to start the second half, scoring the first seven points after intermission to build the advantage to 45-35 lead. Lisa Bue converted a layup to cut it to 45-37 with 15:55 left, but the SDSU reeled off eight unanswered over the next three minutes to go up 53-37 on a Vogel bucket. The Bison never recovered.

South Dakota State built its biggest lead at 73-51 with 2:48 remaining on an Andrea Verdegan basket. The Jackrabbits shot 48.1 percent from the field including 55.6 percent in the second half. NDSU shot 36 percent from the field including 26.1 percent in the second half.

North Dakota State did take a 31-23 lead with 5:41 left in the opening period on alert plays by Danni Heintzelman and Brandee Gibbs. Gibbs scored 11 of her team-high 14 points in the first half. Heintzelman finished with 11 points. Gibbs and Heintzelman each pulled down a game-high seven points, but SDSU held a 35-26 edge on the glass.

Vogel led a group of four SDSU players in double-figures. Jennifer Warkenthien scored 11 points and Christina Gilbert added 10. South Dakota State also scored 21 points off 20 turnovers and outscored the Bison 36-28 in the paint.
