  • Bahamas Thanksgiving Tournament

Rumor from reliable sources has the Rabbits playing in a Thanksgiving tournament in the Bahamas--one put on by the same outfit that runs the Paradise Jam tournament we played in a couple of years ago, where we beat Kentucky.

Further, it sounds like national champion Maryland might be in the same tournament, although it's not clear whether or not SDSU and Maryland would play. By the way, Maryland returns all five starters from the team that beat Duke in OT for the National Championship.

Might be worth looking into travel options to the Bahamas in late November . . .

AJ talked about the tourney at the Stater's Luncheon at Skelly's last month.  I don't think there has been an official announcement or anything yet, but he sounded like it was pretty much a done deal.  I believe Virginia was another school he mentioned being in the tourney.  He also said that USC is under contract to come to Frost Arena next year although there is a possibility of them buying out the game.  He also said the women will travel to Minnesota to play the Gophers.

Megan Vogel also spoke and was very thankful for the great support SDSU fans show the team.  She commented on how at a couple of their road games there seemed to be as many Jackrabbit fans as fans for the home team.

Ironic how being too good can "cost" you home games against bigger schools or should I say schools with bigger names.

I think the brochure in the previous post is for the Paradise Jam not the Bahamas Tournament.  Here is some info on the Bahams Tournament but no teams are listed.

I think we need to nickname Megan. I am thinking the Mayor of Brookings. I think rabitden should work that in to the pre-game introduction.

"And starting at forward a 5'10 sr from St. Peter Minnesota THE MAYOR MEEEEEGAN VOOOOGELLLLLL"

Not that I'm an Iowa State fan, but Fred Hoiberg has always been The Mayor in my time. I like it though. Also could consider "Chairman of the Boards".

Two weeks ago, South Dakota State University coach Aaron Johnston watched in Boston as the Maryland Terrapins rallied to win the women's basketball national title.

In six months, he may be on the bench coaching against the defending champs.

SDSU announced Monday that it will play two games at the Junkanoo Jam in the Bahamas. The event will be held Nov. 24-25 and features Maryland as one of the eight teams, though the two separate brackets and complete field have not been finalized. . . . (read more)

This has got to be a HUGE recruiting plus for the Rabbits . . . come to SDSU and not only do you get to play at the highest level . . .

You get to do it under palm trees and ocean breezes.

That's gotta sound pretty good to a high school star deciding where to further her education.
