Marquette is #20 in the AP poll, and #22 in the WBCA/USA Today Poll, with a record of 11-1.

Their only loss is on the road at Virginia, a week before SDSU beat the Hokies in the Bahamas. Except for Baylor, this will be the biggest test the Jackrabbits will face all season (and, I'm including any WNIT games we might play). Marquette will possibly be the best women's basketball team ever to visit Frost Arena.

    This is a Big Game.

Cavaliers not Hokies. Be careful someone from Virginia may call us the Coyotes. I know we would be offended by that.

Virginia Tech are the Hokies, for those wondering.

As for Marquette, they keeping changing their nickname (Hilltoppers, Golden Avalanche, Warriors, Golden Eagles, Gold, Golden Eagles-again). I think I'm going to refer to them as the "Singing (or Dancing?) Farleys" in honor of the late actor/comedian Chris Farley, a Marquette alum.

We're getting a top 10 RPI team in, who have one loss. To Virginia, a team we beat on a neutral court. Lady Jacks, Marquette is the best team that we've had visit at FROST.

I hope that people stuff FROST, and ring them cowbells in a happy new year taking Marquette down a couple of notches.

Jasmine McCullough scored all of her 10 points in the first half, and Christina Quaye tied her career high with 12 rebounds for Marquette (12-1), which won 10 of its first 11 games in the 2005-06 season - its previous best start.

Planning to make the trip up later today of first thing tomorrow. We will be bringing at least 15 people and 14 cowbells to the game (5 month old can't ring his yet). Any gathering planned for after the game? I can always crash a party. Tailgating probably not a great idea given the weather.

SDSU women take on No. 20 Marquette today

During a 10-3 start, the South Dakota State Jackrabbits have beaten five schools that beat them last season. They're aiming for No. 6 today, hosting No. 20-ranked Marquette at 1 p.m.

But SDSU isn't avenging anything; rather, it's getting accustomed to the rigors of a higher classification.

All of the current players except lone senior Megan Vogel were recruited after the school announced that it jump to NCAA Division I, meaning the Jacks came to college knowing that nothing would come easy.

"We've been in every game mentally and physically, and that's maturity to learn how to do that," SDSU women's basketball coach Aaron Johnston said, "because it doesn't just happen. To come from Division II and look at the scores, there are not a lot of close games going on, and you could take those games off."

That's what happened last year at times - "Those losses probably weren't good losses for us," Jacks sophomore forward Jen Warkenthien said - and in the end any one of the letdowns might have cost the Jacks a spot in the WNIT. They were under consideration in the final hours before the 40-team field was set. . . . (read more)

An hour before game time...But I don't think you'll have to worry about the student section filling up right away before the game until they open it to the public...If you are a student that is.
