  • Kent State University

I spent a little time on Kent State University’s web site.  It is a nice site with a lot of information about each player on their teams

    http://www.kentstatesports.com/

The forum board for Kent State is pretty active and you can read some pretty good information.

    http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/mac/ph...wforum.php?f=5

It is not organized into sports/categories like ours so you have to spend a little time looking for what you want to read.

They have some very tall women on their team but if you will check out their stats from last season you will see that the tall players contributed very little in the way of points and rebounds.  They do have one unknown in a tall young lady recruited from Eastern Europe.  The forum posters don't seem very impressed with the inside players but feel the strength is in the wings.

The ladies will be playing in a nice arena in which the fans surround the court just like at Frost Arena.  It seats a few less people but looks nice in the pictures.

That is crazy, why would they change a public exhibition to a closed door scrimmage?

Flashes to tip off season Saturday

      Tyler McIntosh

The Kent State women's basketball team will start its season at 1 p.m. Saturday when it hosts South Dakota State.

Senior guard Kristin Peoples said the Flashes are anxious, but confident about their first game.

"There are always nerves for the game, but as long as we take care of business in practice, we know we can do it in the game," Peoples said.

Coach Bob Lindsay believes each opening game can be different, and he expects the basics from his team.

"There is really no trend," Lindsay said. "It depends on whom we are playing. We have played good teams, and we have played real good top-25 teams. The only thing I expect out of them is that they come out and play hard. Obviously, teams make mistakes, especially early in the season."

However, Lindsay said Kent State has to battle through any early mistakes.

"You have to be able to play through the mistakes and be able to play hard," Lindsay said. "You have to try to find a way to win."

Lindsay said South Dakota State is a good team and will prove to be a formidable opponent for Kent State.

"They are real physical, and they play great team defense," Lindsay said. "Megan Vogel is a first team all-Independent player. Vogel would be a very good player in this conference. They play a tough schedule."

Senior guard Kerrie James will have the first crack at stopping Vogel, who averaged 16 points and six rebounds per game last season. But Lindsay said he would probably switch several different players on Vogel by the end of the game.

Lindsay said he will not set his starting lineup until Friday and is uncertain as to how he will attack the Jacks.

"I have to watch them play on film a little bit more," Lindsay said. "We have to do what we do. We need to push the ball up the floor, score in transition and get some offensive rebounds. We have to have some balanced scoring." . . . (read more)

Well, if their focus is only Megan Vogel, they're in for a long night.

I would think AJ and the women would welcome a fast pace game.  If we make our outside shots we will win this game.

I don't mean to put words into the KSU's coaches mouth, but it seems like he has us pegged as one of those "scrappy" teams. I wonder how many coaches have left the court shaking their heads wondering what just happened when suffering a loss at the hands of SDSU's women's team. Some day soon we'll stop being a team opposing teams are merely worried about and will move on to one they hope they have a chance to beat. I think that day is here for most opponents. They just don't realize it.

Agreed. A.J.'s team have always ran when it was there. I hope we don't miss Heather to much though. She is not easily replaced.

This game should be a good barometer for the team. According to the Sagarin ratings, Kent St. finished 100th last year and 90th the year before. SDSU finished 83rd last year. Kent St. is picked to finish 2nd in the MAC - East Division

I had heard there was some snow east of here. Didn't realize there was that much snow. Well, guess its just men's BB, FB and women's VB today then.

                      Women's basketball opener postponed

Travel difficulties have forced the South Dakota State University women’s basketball team to postpone its scheduled season opener Saturday at Kent State (Ohio).

After arriving in Chicago Friday afternoon, thunderstorms forced the cancellation of the Jackrabbits’ scheduled connecting flight to Cleveland. With Kent State scheduled to host other events in its MAC facility this weekend, the decision was made to indefinitely postpone Saturday’s women’s basketball game.

The Jackrabbits are now slated to open the season Monday at Middle Tennessee State. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.

we had more rain than snow up here. Wasn't aware that Chicago got hit that bad. Western WI was hit pretty hard, so it must have gone south of us.

Pretty sure it has been cancelled as there hasn't been much talk about it.
