GDT: Leathernecks vs Jackrabbits @ Frost Arena

Coach Gravina has created a good basketball program in Macomb. Leathernecks have struggled against the Jackrabbits losing 19 of 21 games and all 10 games played in Frost. Due to Taylor Hanneman and her husband starting a family, the Leathernecks have a shorter bench. Hanneman is the player who made the 3 point shot that forced overtime in the SLT which the #1 seed WIU won and advanced to the NCAA tourney. Hanneman's last game was before the win over Stanford on the road in the OOC. Emily Clemens is the player that will be on the Jackrabbit watch list. She leads the conference in many categories. She will be the one in the zone who sneaks in behind the guards at the top of the key to get one of those 3.5 steals per game. She is also the player who is averaging 34 minutes per game even though 3 of the conference games were 35+ point blowouts. The Leathernecks have had the bench play a max of 49 minutes in conference play. All the starters are averaging 30.8-34 minutes per game. They have averaged 82 per game before conference and 79 in conference. Although they only scored 56 and 58 points against ORU and USD, they could score big against Omaha and twice against Ft Wayne. The likely absence of Selland is a liability, but we should see plenty of options to work around this gap. Rebounding should be a strength for the Jackrabbits. The defense should hold the Leathernecks below the 79 point average, 45% fg shooting, and the depth of the bench should wear down the starters from Macomb. The zone should crumble some in the 2nd half. Go Jacks!!

I understood she and Ellie had been wearing those boots for a bit of time before DWU game as well. They are both likely to play again today.

It’s time for the girls to get out of the gates quick. If they come out like they have the last few games, we will not be able to come back against a team as good and experienced as WIU. Defensive intensity early will probably tell the story of how this game will ultimately go.

Chynna Stevens has left the team due to personal reasons.

Left the team after her freshman season then came back after being gone a year, sat another year and now when she's eligible she leaves again. Whatever she's dealing with I hope she can work it out. Life is bigger than basketball. I think we will miss her toughness.

Must have been something unexpected. She was on the coaches radio show Monday night for the Senior interview and everything sounded normal. Wouldn't think she would have been put on there if there were troubles brewing.

Zimmer tweeted that he asked whether she was kicked off or quit and was just told that she's no longer with the team.

12-12 at end of 1st qtr. WIU hit 3 3's to get out of 10-2 hole with 3 min left in 1st.
