Jaidyn, looks every bit of 6'2 to me.

This was my initial reaction as well. I'm not familiar with how these situations work. Is there a possibility Claire told AJ she wasn't interested which cleared the way for Jaidyn to commit, or does AJ just try to acquire as much talent as possible and let things work themselves out over time? Regardless Jaidyn looks like a nice versatile player and I trust AJ's vision.
the jacks have never OVER recruited and i am sure they have zero intent of doing that now! BUT that class is TWO WHOLE YEARS away from arriving on campus. there are infinite possibilities for all the things that could happen between now and then.
my guess OF COURSE the jacks are not going to recruit anyone and everyone for that class but if there is another player or even two that the jacks REALLY like and see as an excellent fit they would still take them! i would think that there is an excellent chance that Shepherd fits into that very small group of players.
somehow it seems like those type of very good problems always seem to work themselves out. i am not going to go in to all the possibilities (actually trying not to write novels every time) but if worse comes to worse and the jacks actually get 2 years down the road and they ended up at 16 there are ways around thatLast edited by LetsGoRabbits; 05-17-2022, 09:03 AM.

Some good comments on future rosters. Really be interesting what transpires and what move(s) AJ makes in the next 1-2 years!
As of now, with the girls playing in the front court, Selland and Burckhard will be gone in 2023 and Theisen and Nelson will be gone in 2024. Who will be able to establish themselves in the paint and shoot and/or rebound when these 4 are gone? Can Byom plus Meyer and Nielson both coming in this Fall and Behrens coming in 2023 get the job done up front? Jaidyn will be a Fr. in 2024 and some reports show her being a rebounder and shot blocker.
Maybe AJ is looking and hoping for another Selland type either for 2023 or 2024. I personally have no idea, but does either Vasecka as a Fr. in 2024 or even Sheppard if she accepted an offer have the physique to play physically inside?? They have two years to grow...maybe so!

Maybe Nielsen can develop early or hopefully contribute a little along with Meyer and Theisen , and Mesa is 6' 2" so maybe her too. I don't know about Nesheim, if she can handle physicality or not. Then there's Dunn, maybe she can get some points there too.

I agree. I have a young guy helping me from her hometown. We talked some about her the other day, my guess is she will be a work in progress.

obviously I or we could look it up, i did not, but it feels to me like she did not shoot the ball nearly as well last year as she did her freshman year. and i definitely felt like there was a lot of tentativeness to her game.
i feel like a fair number of folks felt like there would be some transfers from the trio of Vlastuin, Byom, and Neshiem. Truly, they are AMAZING evidence of how much talent there is on the girls roster!! they are very good players and i would say that as a group or individually they would have gotten significant playing time for tons of other mid major teams. i think at least one of them would have even had a good chance of cracking the playing rotation at usd
although DP really tightened up the rotation as the season went along, very similar to otz in his final year, but i think at least one of those 3 would have been in the top 8 for usd. for lots of the other schools in the conference more than one would have been in the top 8 and for many schools at least one of them would have been a starter
with the jacks, however, all of them were CLEARLY outside the top 9, when the team was healthy
i am very happy that they wanted to stay!! who knows? maybe the jacks simply have so much talent coming that they never get much time, but i still think they all have potential to earn more time. Mesa might be the most athletic player we have ever had for anyone 6'2 or over. i am not sure exactly what she is missing, but she feels like everything could suddenly click and make her a VERY valuable player
and I dont think anyone brings more intensity or ferocity to defense and rebounding than Regan does. I swear if she would just spend the off season shooting 1000 3s every day and become a D and 3 specialist, she could be incredibly valuable
anyway AJ talked a lot about the team going through all the hardships of last year. i think they are a very close group and care about each other a lot. i am very happy that those 3 girls wanted to stay with their jackrabbit family and i think they still have a chance to contribute more than just being great teammates

Back to Byom, i am surprised she didnt get more minutes as the 3rd post option. Even if close games or when worried about foul trouble she could easily eat up several minutes at a time, give the starters a break or if they get some cheap fouls. Plus her length makes it hard for teams to defender her compared to Burkhard.
Also agree, if Neshiem could knock in a three on occasion she could potentially get more PT as well. She seems to do really we on defense and rebouding, so adding a shot and slashing to the hoop could help her get some more minutes.
MV would need to get to knocking down a lot of shots to get more minutes I think. Almost like Wingett on the mens team. They both get lost on defense way to much, both can shoot the 3 and neither are athletic enough to make of the difference when they are on the court."The most rewarding things you do in life, are often the ones that look like they cannot be done.” Arnold Palmer
