The Jackrabbits and Yotes meet in the new SCSC. Both teams have lost 2 projected starters. The Coyotes found they had more than enough talent on the long bench. The Jackrabbits have lost preseason POY and another first team conference player for an undisclosed or unknown period. One of the yote replacements is a talented sophomore Allison Arens who is averaging 20 points, 4.3 assists, 2.6 turnovers, 5.7 boards, 86% free throws, 53.8% FG, and 43.2% 3 pt shooting. Who is Caitlin Duffy or Jasmine Trimboli? That was a trick question as they are the 2 senior projected starters who have been injured. Freshman Ciara Duffy and Sophomore Jaycee Bradley are the other double digit scorers. Senior Abigail Fogg puts in 9.7 points. The somewhat taller Yotes average about 9 more rebounds than opponents per game. The Jackrabbits have a tough game in Vermillion as they continue to adjust without Macy Miller. The Jackrabbit defense will have their hands full with Allison Arens. It will be interesting to see how that matchup works today. Fogg also has had some good days when she found the 10' shots open. The Coyotes are not as deep this year with the injuries, but the loss of the seniors has not been as crippling as some may have expected. The Jackrabbits will need those Miller time points to come from Thompson, Young, and Guebert while Palmer and Alexander have been improving steadily. Happy New Year! Go Jacks!!

I hope Ober can play today. She, Thompson and others probably will have to have big games down low for the Jacks to win. Depth hasn't been a strong suit for SDSU so far this year. This space for lease.

10.4 seconds: we foul. They may both free throws. USD 65 SDSU 62
No doubt we'll be getting fouled so USD tries to prevent a three-point shot.
Not looking so good for the Jacks. But, the men won with a shot at 2.8 seconds on the clock.
Young gets a shot off but USD had a hand on it. 1.8 seconds left and we inbounds. Thompson for three...rims out. Darn. Close.
USD 65, SDSU 62

This is a pretty good team, down two starters and lose by three on their home court, after leading most of the game. When Ober comes back,we'll be even better.Bench getting lots of quality game experience. Not a bad game, just come up a little bit short today.

The Yotes did benefit from some touch fouls, but give them credit for creating those opportunities by attacking the basket. I thought the Jacks were too dependant on the perimeter shots for a large part of the second half. They miss not having Ober there to provide that second inside option along with Thompson.
