  • GDT: SDSU Jackrabbits vs Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions

The Golden Lions come to Brookings with 0-5 record. They have had 1 home game thus far. All 5 games have been part of a tough schedule which includes Ball St, Illinois, Austin Peay, Xavier, Cincinnati, and now SDSU. They are part of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Ark-Pine Bluff was established as a segregated college in 1873 and they are 2nd oldest college in Arkansas. There are less than 3,000 students in this D1 institution that has a big program in aquaculture research. The Golden Lions will be much smaller than the Jackrabbits. The first victory for the Golden Lions will not be in Brookings. We should expect the Jackrabbits to play the bench in this game to finish a great weekend for SDSU athletics. Go Jacks!!
Best to remember these are kids and they are doing everything they can to entertain us, be scholars, and all in all be great humans. Jackedforlife

My God is this team terrible! They run an offense similar to what I had my daughters 6th grade team run....

65-18 @ half. Kerry Young is at 999 points scored in her career.

Well...this game has allowed me to sit back and relax. I think I have spent more time on campus today than when I went to school. #YoungHall4Life

I may have a hot dog eating contest to entertain myself in the 4th quarter.

Thought this was easily the worst D1 women's basketball team I'd ever seen. They literally had 2 offensive sets with some back door cuts as the only changes out of that. Then I realized they actually played Illinois closer than IPFW did...

I was surprised that AJ brought the starters back to begin the 4th quarter with a 50 + point lead, and played them 4 or 5 minutes more. I thought Bultsma played well - she has some nice quick post moves.

Bultsma just needs to work on that shot a little more---develop a little "touch". get a little more air under that ball. many of her shots are more of a line drive, come off a bit hard. and, i would say if one just looks at this game, Ark-PB may be the worst DI bunch i have seen. not a lot to see there.

Yes,I looked back at their schedule too,and noticed they didn't really get blown out like they did yesterday, except for Cincinnati by 30,Ball State by 28.Nothing even compares to the thrashing they just took. They (UAPB) only lost to Illini by 12. They played very poorly against the Jacks and we played well obviously.ND will be a little stiffer test.

There was an unusual order for the Pine Bluff women's team. It is the first time I saw a team take the floor after the National Anthem. It was odd to see only one team on the floor unless they were lined up in the corner where they enter and ran to their bench area from that position.

Use the board and she should use her body to protect her shot like Ober and Thompson do,that gives you a much better chance even against taller players.Practice,practice,practice.I'm sure she will get better, she hasn't had a whole lot of game experience yet.I'm a "use the board fan".There's a spot on the board for every conceivable angle and game situation if you know where they are and use the right softness/hardness off the glass. This makes you a much more dangerous post player once you've mastered the glass.Obers one of the best we've had, along with Thompson.

I must confess though,Macy's floaters w/nothing but net are fun too watch too,but you have to master that style of shot also, and catch just a little too much rim and it'll bounce out,but Macy's so good at that type shot.

Back to Bultsma, she's not very physical yet,a little timid.I've seen games where Ober seems like she's engaged in hand to hand combat down in the post, sometimes it's a war zone down there.Time and strength conditioning will help Bultsma get there,i'm sure.

Bultsma has demonstrated a knack for the rebound. In her 15 minutes, she managed 9 rebounds. She had a couple of turnovers that will also require a little more work. She will certainly be a great addition to the post position going forward. The 4 and 5 positions are looking deep in the future.
