You knew Edwardsville was in trouble when you saw they had the dreaded NOB's on their uniforms. It's the kiss of death,I tell ya.
I used to push for black uni's for the women, since then, looked at the crystal ball and shook a few bones out of a cup and read them...now, don't know if it's all that important to break with tradition....but I'm not superstitious you know
Lexi is really the only bright spot on the bench. She still doesn't shoot very well, but can get in the paint and create. Seems to have really developed her handles and control of game flow.
Syndney P. looked pretty bad through 7.5 quarters. Last 4 minutes she finally started penetrating and creating good shots. She has been really off with her 3 point shot. Really need her to provide some scoring punch off the bench. Still had her playing some defense on the other teams 4 and she struggles with that. Is a true 3, but don't think there are better options for that position right now.
Tiffany Flatta is not really even a threat to look to score. Has played 26 minutes without even attempting a shot. She has some athleticism, it really looks like she will only score if someone can set her up with easy shots. She is long but is also thin and can be pushed around. Had a couple of rebound opportunities where instead of trying to grab the ball she was tipping it out. And this was against a team who didn't have a 6 footer on the floor at the time.
Syndney T. / Megan B are both playing like freshman. Syndney really playing timid on offense, but defensively appears to be fairly adept already. Megan actually plays pretty physical and has an offense mentality, but rushing a bit and struggling with her shot.
Ena V just doesn't have much game experience and plays timid on offense as well. Think she will get some minutes against lesser opponents, but not otherwise.
I appreciate that the bench is playing decent defense, but we are going to need to get some scoring from them because they aren't good enough defensively to blank teams. With 4 minutes to go in the game we hadn't had a bench player other than Lexi who had scored during the regular season yet. Not good. Now obviously some of this can / could change as the year goes on, but it is what it right now.

Last year we had about 11 or 12 points from the bench. I would expect we will see a similar number this year. If it is 9.5 or 14 per game, the starting 5 have the ability to keep the score high enough. Palmer will get some along with Alexander and the rest of the bench will be fine as we get into the season. I would expect there will be a few break outs in scoring. Last year there were 3 subs who averaged double figure minutes in nearly all the games. There are more practices to address concerns before they hit the road. It is early in the season and we will see more definition in the next 2 games in Iowa City. I may be worried in a week or so, but 2-0 with 1 quality win is a bit premature to worry about the bench that is currently doing a serviceable job on defense.
Best to remember these are kids and they are doing everything they can to entertain us, be scholars, and all in all be great humans. Jackedforlife
What is Graettinger's injury problem again ? Is it the same as what held her out last year, or is it a new injury ? You would hope she might provide some wing scoring, but she will take some time to get up to speed once she is healthy.

She sat out last year following a concussion in practice. This year it was reported as finger or hand injury.
