The one thing that needs improvement against better teams is tighter defense against 3 point shooters. Maybe the strategy against FW was to let them shoot 3's and protect the middle, but we will need to close out better against the 3 with teams like USD.

Agree 100%. My concern....when we get beat of the dribble without Ober in the paint its a lay up every time.

The zone we play really takes away the dribble drive penetration, but it's susceptible to a good 3 pt shooting team if they reverse the ball enough times as the last player in the ball reversal starts lagging behind too much and eventually can't get to a defensive position.I think if we stole a perimeter pass or two, they would be hesitant to pass quickly around the perimeter to cause this short coming to occur. The problem with that is in order for the zone to work,no one should break ranks and go out chasing passes or otherwise the integrity of the zone itself becomes compromised.

Maybe the solution then would be not to rotate side to side so far as to allow this lagging to occur. Plus, it looks very tiring if we stay in it too long as there's so much movement on each pass ,and that makes it less effective also,as tired legs can't rotate quite as fast as fresh ones can. Some breakdowns against the three are head on from them setting screens too,we have to become more aware of that too,but the zone is so effective taking away dribble drive penetration, unless a team is hitting an inordinate number of three's,it's very effective otherwise.

Some teams are really efficient in three point shooting, and very selective in their shots.Teams like ND throw a mix at you,as they can get points inside or out, whatever they see as the greatest breakdown or weakness in their opponents defense. Some teams shoot a lot of three's every game. These teams, the ones that shoot three's every game can be dangerous ,if the three point shooting defense is lacking and if they get going on a hot steak, but otherwise not so much as the offense is somewhat unbalanced and skewed toward shooting the three because they can't get enough inside for some reason or another..... anyway,we should tighten up our defense on three's a little bit better,as the poster said earlier, and who I agree with, long story short.

Jacks have seven players who shoot three's at 34% (lowest) and better. Six players mainly shoot three's for the Yotes, Seekamp, Hemiller, Duffy, Stewert, Trimboli, and Bradley, and they won't all be on the court at the same time probably.Bradley (she's a Fr) only gets 11 min a game and Trimboli (the juco transfer) about 15, so they won't be on the court as much as the other four. Seekamp at 40%,Hemiller at 42% and Duffy at 36.5% are the main worries for three's,but they can all drive and get to the hoop too, that makes it more difficult to focus mainly on denying them the three point shot, Seekamp's particularly adept at passing and hitting an open player, from anywhere on the court, and that's another thing to be aware of.
Stewert is up in the air as she's at 33% (I'd take allowing only 1 every third shot,as two should be lost possessions). She could shoot better in any particular game though, depends a lot on the defense applied .Yotes have made 202 3's for the year at a team 37%.We are 194 and 35% last updated stats. I'd say, over all, we match up pretty good with USD for 3 pt shooting capabilities, just have to limit their looks a little.

I think,if we can hold them down just a little on three's at their home court,we can easily match their three point shooting with our three point shooters . It's who's hot, whose not.... type deal , and who can incorporate the three point shooting the best into their offense , I'd say....you don't want it to hurt you if there's suddenly a lid on the basket, because in some games the lost possessions will kill you if you take too many three's and miss most of them ,and you don't want to have to start passing up open three's ,because nothing will drop, because it takes away from your offense too much,...it can't be just one exclusively,....that is the three point shooting and inside play, rather one should compliment the other ,ideally.....but if the three's are falling, bombs away .....basketball can be so fickle at times....it's not so much how many, but timely three's can be crucial in tight games, but the shooters might be tight too,but if you're a good shooter you can't be afraid to take a wide open shot, that's what you do.

Unless your just super consistent at everything you do (UConn), basketball can be so fickle as to what to do and what not to do at times. There's so much more that can happen in a game that includes great players on both teams that can tip the game in favor of one team or the other too .That's why we need a good coaching staff, and why we're blessed in that regard to have our current coaching staff.
