  • GDT: SDSU Jackrabbits vs UNC Bears

Northern Colorado brings a 3 game winning streak to Frost. They have beaten Akron, Valpo, and Utah St since Thanksgiving. They also defeated Denver on their first game of the season. The second year coach is formerly a long term(18 years) assistant at K-State. Two of the assistant coaches are former K-State players. 47% of the Bears shots have been 3 pt attempts where they are averaging 36%. A sticky man to man defense might hamper the Bear offense or bring a sagging zone a few problems. The Bears will depend on about 8 players even though some will get a few minutes. They have a 6' 3" freshman post who will be one of the 8 as well a RS freshman pg who starts. Todays game will be a bigger test than Portland St, If the Jackrabbit defense turns out today, we should see a 10 plus point victory day as the women are more rested from the holiday tourney of 3 games in 3 days. Go Jacks!!

We have apparently forgotten how to shoot somewhere between here and the tropics. Another ice cold start. At least UNC is not doing much better. Jacks have missed 7 straight. UNC 6 straight. finally both make a shot.

Jacks trail 12-11 after one. Two high scoring offenses caught up in a rock fight.

2 games in a row we are struggling to shoot. Hopefully they figure those issues out soon. Seems like we are struggling to rebound too.

We sure miss a lot of close in shots off the glass. That used to be a strength of ours in prior years, something to work on,we're leaving a lot of points we should have had on the court.Maybe more importantly,it gives us more empty possessions, and gives a great three point shooting team like UNC a lot more incentive to try more three's that they might not have felt comfortable taking in a much tighter game.So much of basketball is psychological.

And the rock fight suddenly becomes a shootout. Both teams heat up in a hurry. SDSU really turns it on and is looking good, have hit 12 of their last 16.

What a contrast between quarters. Jacks score 11 in the first and 31 in the second.

          Jacks lead 42-29 at half.

Glad to see they remembered quickly how to score again.

Will one excellent quarter of offense and a solid defensive effort be enough to overcome three of the worst offensive quarters of the year? The Jacks have had a dreadful shooting performance in the second half. UNC has whittled a once-comfortable lead down to 4 points with 3:00 to go. We have gone 5:00 without a point - including FT.

              There's a 3-pointer by Guebert.. Finally a breakthrough. We'll need a few more, however.

We don't seem to want to shoot under the basket, twice now they've dribbled out when they could have had a decent shot,we're just not aggressive down low anymore it seems.Maybe I'm way off base here, but that's the way it seems to me,we just want to shoot three's all game long.We aren't THAT good at shooting three's that we don't have to score other ways too.

I agree, though UNC was doing a good job of clogging up the paint. We did the old live-or-die by the 3 today. It was just enough.

This was another one of those "a win is a win" games, although this time it was against a team that came in at 5-2 and was decent. We'll have to do better against UNI, and certainly against Creighton/DePaul.

Glad for the win,but we aren't playing very good basketball, after starting out really good for the season.I should write a book "How to complain when your teams 6-2,with the relatively close losses to the #3 and #5 ranked teams in the nation"

Seriously,we have some tough teams coming up,so our record means nothing,it's how we're playing as a team that'll decide whether or not we have a chance to win those games. That's the knitty gritty of it.

Gabby had two consecutive key plays with the offensive rebound and then the three with the shot clock going off. No good reason for this team to give up that many offensive boards. Not sure why Miller wasn't on the floor during that late run - AJ had 4 fresh players waiting at the scorer's table but there wasn't a stoppage of play so they could get in. Probably should have burned a timeout to stop their momentum and get them in the game. Again, the FG% from three was better than from two - have to start finishing at the rim.

If the Jacks are going to have sucess under the basket we really need some contributions from Ellie Thompson? I am not to sure what is going wrong with Ellie but she is really struggling in the last few games. You can see by the look on her face and body language that she is really frustrated. If she can get back to her freshmen production our points in the paint will improve.

speaking of Creighton, maybe some of you are already aware, but, Jannings fractured her lower leg and Rollerson broke a bone in her foot. big losses for Creighton.

Did anyone post the final score of this game? I see so much hand ringing over what they did or did not do, but no one posts the final. Some of us were not at the game.
